Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Belgian Monk

Despite describing itself as a 'beer restaurant', it also has a busy continental-style bar area full of fitting breweriana. Although eleven draught beers are shown on a board (with others listing some rare bottled offerings), I only spotted eight taps, but thankfully these included one of my all-time favourites: Poperings Hommel Bier (£3.60, half, for a 7.5% beer) served like the others in the correct glass.

Situated in a good position with a continental style facade, the Belgian Monk has a large selection of beers, albeit a little on the pricey side.Purchased a couple of the cheapest beers Jupiler £2.80 for half plus half of Bavik Pils(5.2abv)at.£2.85.There is a good selection of bottles with the strongest being the Bush beer 12%abv at £5.95 for 330cl bottle. There were not to many drinkers in on my Tuesday visit but there were quite a few diners in ths small dining room area on the left.

So well done, I literally thought I was back in Belgium. The bar is situated on the right as you enter, with seating along the windows. There is an extensive chalkboard featuring 14 Belgium draught beers. There are a few tables around the staircase, which leads up to the restaurant. The staff were helpful and friendly and told me that they catered for drinkers, in spite of a lot of people eating. I went for the Petrus Blond.

I visited a couple of pubs in Norwich recently but this is the only one I can recollect with any great clarity (that's more down to consumption than faults with the pubs themselves). This is a very relaxed, authentic-feeling Belgian pub in the city centre, with a couple of pilsner and abbey style beers on draught an a larger selection displayed on menus and a blackboard in one corner of the bar. Sadly, it is prohibitively small and one area of the pub is reserved for those eating; frustrating but understandable. As with many Belgian pubs, expect fairly hefty prices but for a couple of hours it was a most unexpected treat in this sleepy East Anglian city.
