A classic locals' pub of its era, although sadly the latter part of the last century was not noted for its brilliance. Two bar layout, with a bright and airy lounge/dining room one side and a public bar with pool and darts the other. This has peripheral seating with some of the most worn leatherette seating I can remember. That aside, it is generally well-kept and has had a bit of a freshen up, with tidy paintwork throughout. Unfortunately the sort of beer selection you might expect also, with a disused handpump and John Smiths Smooth crap the only bitter. A shame, as it seems quite a good pub otherwise.

Alex Conway left this review about The Clifton Hotel

The Clifton Hotel is a large estate pub in the heart of clifton slightly to the north. This is one of only a few pubs in the clifton area now the corner house closed down and a bit of o walk from the few remaining. This is very much a locals pub with a rather rough clientele from the surrounding area that swear and shout a lot. Upon entering there were two areas a bar to the left and lounge to the right and my pessimistic predictions about the pub were realised with the dire drinks selection. Obviously no real ale with either Worthingtons or John Smiths being the options. I opted for a worthingtons that was really not that cheap either especially considering the area and the type of drinkers it attracted with it costing £3.10 a pint, especially considering its out of town location.

This is a pretty rubbish pub that I will certainly not be returning to any time soon unless a big improvement happens. Just the type of place that is a prime target for developers and the chains want rid of, sad really.
