Graham Coombs left this review about The Marcia Grey

A large and impressive looking pub from the outside, inside is tidy but rather featureless, and appropriately coloured in shades of grey, although it does run to a (loud) carpet. The sports TV screens seem to be its main reason for being, certainly not the beer with a choice of John Smith's smooth crap or Caffreys as bitters. With a handful of morose punters studiously ignoring each other with eyes glued to the screens, you do start to wonder if Humphrey has a point.

One room pub with an almost central servery, home to two horseshoes of everyone’s favourite kegs including John Smith’s smooth crap, plus a solo Strongbow and an unexpected Moretti plus some keg wine. An estate pub without an estate but a fair bunch of eccentrics, big lass bar maid, and doms playing auld lads to make it interesting. Not sure why there are empty but candle-less gin bottles on the tables.

The Marcia Grey is on acombs main shopping street and it looks qiute a large pub from the outside.
Once inside the bar faces the door and this area is not that wide, at either side of the bar the room widens out and i thought the pub seemed quite smart.
There were two handpumps on the bar but both were uncliped so i asked if there was any real ale on and the barmaid picked up an Old Speckled Hen beer mat and leaned it against the pump and said this beer is on, the Old Speckled Hen was a decent drink but it is not really to my taste.
The pub was very busy with different age groups and it was a comfortable enough place to have a drink in.

We thought this pub had friendly staff only to find the landlord talks to his customers very rudely, unpolite. This is no way to talk to customers, the pub setting is nice and welcoming just shame the staff are rude.

After new decor, new management and new staff, this pub really is the place to be!
Its great atmosphere and friendly locals make you feel at ease and help you to have a great night, whether its a quiet drink on a week night or a busy weekend this pub will always make you feel welcome.

with wheelchair access and nice seating area at front there is also a great decked smoking area at the back which in the summer is also a great sun trap.
