Old Boots left this review about The Leeman Rose

Nice back street multi-room pub opened out a bit and sadly no cask beer. Slightly messed about but still an older ambience in spite of modern improvements like fake flags and odd colours. Pool, darts and sports TV. There’s a fully fledged food bar at the back by the bogs. Salt of the earth punters.

The Leeman rose has recently had a refurbishment and seems to be the far busier of the two pubs in the Leeman road area of York. There were around a dozen regulars in on my Tuesday early evening visit and all were very friendly and this was not a clicky type of pub like what I was expecting. The pub is one large drinking are with separate rooms That have all been knocked through to make one area. There were three very shiny new hand pumps on the bar (I'm guessing from the recent refurb) but one was un clipped and the landlord was turned around leaving John smiths as the lone ale but this seemed to be a fairly good seller and was a very nicely kept pint at another wallet friendly £2.60

The better pub in leeman road that sells a nice pint but a destination pub this is not, would pop in if in the area but nothing special.

I was born down Leeman Road over 70 years ago less than 100 yards from The Leeman,I agree with Alan Winfield in his assessment of The Leeman EXCEPT ...it is NOT in the holgate area. It is in the LEEMAN ROAD. Ask any taxi driver where The Leeman is, not one will say holgate. [ I'm proud to be a "leeman roader" albeit an ex ]

This is a proper old street corner pub in the holgate area it has terraced houses next to it.
There are two rooms with the bar being the bigger of the two ,i had a drink in the bar and there was one real ale on this was John Smiths cask which was a fairly decent drink.
I wish there were more pubs left like this.
