ROB Camra left this review about The Junction Brewhouse

Nicely refurbished pub brewing its own beer at the onsite brewery. Comfortable front room with settles and a booth facing the bar, along with a nice set of toilets. The rear room is larger and is used for meetings and also for the well attended carvery (over 70 during the Sunday we visited). Loads of handpumps over the two rooms but only three beers on in the front room. These were their own Trainspotter & Choo Choo Blonde (likely to change its name to Light Rail in the near future, so Paul told me) along with a Milestone beer. Both of the Junction beers were in good nick. Friendly welcome from Gill & Paul who were both on good form as we chatted to them. I also had a pint of the Trainspotter in Stonegate Yard later in the day which was also in excellent nick. Looks like they might have a winner there. Well worth the short walk from town (it's just past the Railway Museum) and we'll no doubt visit again next time we're in York. Well done guys for rescuing a pub with a less than savoury reputation in the past.

Large 2 roomed pub that is now brewing. Didn't manage to get the Junction Brewhouse beers as they would not be ready till the weekend. We were given a taster of the Trainspotter that had still to go through final fermenter and it was good, even at that stage. Friendly landlady took us through to the back room where large glass windows showed the brewery room behind so customers could watch the brewing process. Very clean looking brewery too. They have a pride in their ales, and won't release them to other pubs till they have been on in their own for a couple of days so they know the quality is right. We enjoyed Phoenix Monkey Town Mild and Elland Head Brewers Reserve 2011. Specials and a Porter will follow, and beers could be on at York beer festival in September. They are doing carvery meals so opening times have changed. Worth the 10-15 minute walk from the station, or a number 2 or 22 bus from town.

Old Boots left this review about The Junction Brewhouse

About 10 -15 minutes walk from the railway station but worth while, an old John Smiths pub revitalised into a decent ale house. The front bar runs the full width of the building, traditionally renovated with bench seating and cast iron base tables, one end has a collection of sofas and low tables. Four handpumps with Black Sheep, Taylors, Wharfebank as guests plus one spare, the quality was excellent, although the service was a bit Marie Celeste like. The décor is tasteful with dark wood and a light floor with tiles round the counter , the walls are a light colour with railway pictures, the National Railway Museum is five or ten minutes walk away and the Train Maintenance depot is across the road. There's a big square room out the back with another counter, housing seven currently unused pumps, this room is furnished with tables and chairs plus leather sofas and armchairs. The pub is now called the Junction Brewhouse because it intends to brew on the premises, this isn't in operation yet (Oct 2010) but looks imminent judging by the quantity of Maris Otter malt stored about the place. Like their website and brewery I'd say this pub is a work in progress, take the opening hours listed on the site with a pinch of salt, and I look forward to seeing how it develops over the next few months. One last note to the management – pineapple chunks in the Gents please.

Feb 2011 Update: The brewery is now operational, the beers are:

Trainspotter (3.8%) a dark ruby full bodied, bitter with a creamy head, fruity with a very dry and slightly medicinal finish.

Blonde (4.2%) obviously pale but less full bodied than the other Junction beers and with less hops than expected. It was labelled as an experimental brew.

First Class (4.5%) similar to Trainspotter but darker, less dry and more spicy, a bit like a Belgian Bruin in some ways.

There is also a porter but I didn't get to try it, the beers are competitively priced at £2.50 a pint. There are also some nice new toilets by the front bar.

The junction is a plainish town pub in holgate.
I went in the bar but there is also a function room here there was only one real ale on which was John Smiths cask and as usuall this was a decent drink.
