A fairly basic cafe bar, with a larger upstairs area including a roof terrace. The bar at the back holds a row of keg taps, which sadly proved to be fairly uninteresting mainstream/euro/Beavertown stuff. No sign of a handpump now. It does claim live music on Thursdays but there seems to be little other reason to patronise it.

Only one pull but sadly lacking beer, the keg choice was particularly boring and the bottle range even worse, I made my excuses etc. Hopefully this is a temporary situation and will be resolved after the pandemic.

Cafe bar rather than pub so a decent option to provide some variety on your crawl of Ye Olde York Alehouses. handpumps contained two standard national ales, craft beer is apparently the focus here. It’s friendly and a real local indie place. Hippy was certainly the vibe I got too although no live music currently allowed (thankfully?)

Thought I hadn't been in here but when I checked my records indeed I had. Nothing special about the ales last night but they do change so we might be lucky on another occasion. No doubt we will revisit in due course.

I was expecting a lot more from this place after hearing some good reviews, sadly I was left a little disappointed.

this is a very popular place with live music played most nights. the bar was packed solid on my Saturday evening visit and it was very hard to get to the bar. Four hand pumps were dispensing three beers as on was off. I was a bit disappointed with the choice as it was just generic Marstons stuff with Hobgoblin, Pedigree and New world available. The Hobgoblin was a very pricey £3.50 and was not in very good condition.

This place was a bit of let down, a few changes and this could be a real gem but the price, choice and quality let it down tonight, not sure i would return.

The Habit is a small bar that opens early on a Saturday morning for drinks.
Once inside there is a small oblong shaped room with a small bar to the rear right, there is bench seating to the front and right and two tall tables to the left, the room is bare boarded.
There four real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Hop Studio York Quaffing Ale which went down very well, the other beer i noted was Marstons Pedigree New World.
Backgrond music was playing and food was being served.
I was the only drinker in pre 11 o clock.
This was a pleasant enough bar to have a drink in before the middle of York gets packed later in the day.

Small busy pub well situated to pop in on a crawl of York's real ale pubs. Enjoyed the Yorkshire Heart Blackheart Stout here. There are 2 floors and a roof terrace I wish I had gone up to see as it is said there is a good view of the Minster from it.

Tiny bar with a lively music scene several nights of the week. When we called in there was an open mic night on and the acts ranged from poor to bloody awful. It gets cramped even when there's about 20 in the place and there must have been about 30 during our visit. Surprisingly there are 2 handpumps on the bar serving changing guests. My pint was pretty decent as well. I'm not sure we'll call again, at least not unless I have earplugs :-)) But I'm glad we called in this once.

Wonderfully eclectic and friendly bar on two levels in an ancient building. Serve real ale from local breweries on 2 handpulls and several continental lagers - including the excellent Pilsner Urquell. Always live music at weekends and a late licence until 1.30am Fri / Sat ensure a good end to your evening when the local pubs kick you out at midnight. If you're very lucky during the summer they open up their tiny beer garden upstairs which overlooks York Minster.

Small bar with an eccentric, slightly hippy atmosphere. There is a low tongue and groove ceiling, some ancient beams and bareboards. The bar counter and some drinking shelves use barrels as supports and a collection of pump clips runs round the ceiling. Upstairs is a seating and eating area. Eurobeers on tap with a solitary handpump serving Springhead Polar Beer in good condition on my last visit, there is also a small wine list of £15 a bottle vintages to go with the snack type menu. Eclectic staff and customers.
