Old Boots left this review about Black Bull

A large Sizzling Pub & Grill just on the eastern edge of York, the outside was liberally littered with Guinness tat when I popped in. Broadly a shallow U shape, the servery is front and centre with seating/ dining areas to each side. Carpeted with larger tiles at the counter, there’s a few screens, a grab machine! piped music and there’s a pool table and machines at the far left hand end. An extra large T-Bar dominates with a selection of solos and there’s three pulls with Black Sheep Bitter, which was rank but changed without question plus a reasonable Leeds Pale and Doombar. Obviously laid out for dining but ok I suppose if you like that sort of family dining thing.

Still a "Sizzling Inn" but has benefitted from a very tasteful refurbishment which has left a very nice comfortable interior and does not have the usual chain eatery feel. A couple of local beers alongside the usual IPA and seemed in good order.

Aside from the manager of the pub leaving her own 10 star review and completely defeating the object of pubs galore I have left a lower rating than it actually is to balance this out and fairly represent this pub!! (would have got a 7)

This is a fairly standard chain sizzler pub and as Alan mentioned is more family dining orientated. Two real ales were available with Greene King IPA and another I cant remember at 5%. Neither took my fancy so I opted for a Guinness and this was ok but nothing special but good value at a touch over £3.

This is an ok place to have a drink but is not really suited to drinking, I would return for food but not with my friends for a beer.

The Black Bull is a large pub on the eastern edge of York.
This pub has got one very large room inside the bar was facing as you entered and the pub was carpeted throughout. There was a grown up drinking area to the left and family dining to the right and rear this area was very busy with children, babies and people of all ages the grown up side was a lot quieter.
This pub is branded as a sizzling pub and has the menu to go with it,on the beer front there were two real ales on the bar i had a drink of Marstons EPA and this was a really nice drink on a warmish day the other beer was Black Sheep bitter.
This is mainly a dining pub but drinkers were made just as welcome.
A new travel lodge has been built behind the pub and this probably helps boost custom here.
