Update Feb 2023
Changed a little since Covid and fuel price increases and now only opens on Monday lunchtimes and Fridays all day, plus special events, being available for functions at other times. A back room has been converted into a distillery and they produce their own gin, rum and vodka as well as the chocolates. Still a very lovely pub and hopefully they will restore more regular opening at some point. Ales on were Yorkshire Heart Harlequin, TT Landlord and Black Sheep.

Original review Oct 2016
Thriving village pub with a well-deserved reputation for food. The splendidly-aged interior has a series of rooms circling a central bar, including a couple of nice snug bars at the front and a larger room opening out into a restaurant area at the rear. A nice range of regional ales on offer, including some unusual ones - various listings and awards over the years including Cask Marque and Good Beer Guide. Other attractions include a large selection of gins and even home-made chocolate! Quite frankly somewhere you could happily lose a whole day. Or two.

We'd been to this pub several times over the years, but I hadn't reviewed it for this site.An attractive whitewashed brick and pantile roofed building in a quiet village off the A64.Largely, but not exclusively food led, there are a couple of drinking areas to the front, including an interestingly austere pannelled public bar to the right of the front door.
Meals have been of high quality, charmingly served, and the beers well kept, if mainly from the Yorkshire mainstream. The pub does seem to act as a showcase for Revolutions Brewing of Castleford.
Our visits have been during the winter or autumn, but there's a beer garden and benches in front.Good pub.Visited in January 2017

Lovely Pub just on the outskirts of York. The pub is in the quiet village of Colton and has a lovely Patio/decked area for enjoying a pre meal drink. The pub also has its own deli which stocks its homemade Jams, Chutneys, ice creams and other local produce.
The pub has a well stocked selection of real ales approx 5 on our last visit.
The food is delicious, we've been for Sunday lunch which was fantastic quality and a good deal at £17 for 3 courses we thought. Again lots of local produce on the menu and beautifully served by the chef.
Well worth a visit! We will definitely be visiting again!!
