Possibly the only pub I have ever seen with no signage on the building - there is a sign at the entrance to Long Ashes Park - caravans and retirement lodges - that says The Gamekeeper Inn, so I have gone with that. (The old picture on the front of the pub, which used to show a pheasant being killed by a man with a gun, appears to have been taken down. The url for the website has "gamekeeper", but the front page when you get to the site has an apostrophe-S attached.)

The building itself is an oddity, having a conservatory added on to what looks like it should be the front, while an entrance facing the car park has been added to what would normally be the side. Steps lead up from this to the bar area, which has a bit of space and a few tables for drinkers, while diners have a plethora of tables to choose from. Unless, like me, they had not made a booking, in which case they'll be asked to take a place at one of the tables near the bar and consult a menu until the kitchen staff have time to cook something for them.

To be fair, the young man who served me was very friendly and efficient, and in fact the kitchen were just as efficient in working their way through the queue of hungry diners, so I was served my vegan pie with chips before I was half way down my pint. There were four hand pumps with Wainwright, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Tetleys and Wensleydale Gamekeeper best bitter. I don't know if the beer is named after the pub, or if they just order it because of the coincidence, but I do know that it was in better than acceptable condition, and I had a second pint despite being pretty full up with pie and chips.

Refurbished and reopened. Looks very smart on their new website.

I think its trading. Winter opening hours notice on door, although no-one in sight on a cold winters afternoon.
