Steve of N21 left this review about The Newcastle Hotel

The Newcastle Hotel is a pleasant pub / hotel on the main street in the centre of Rothbury overlooking the Market place.
A traditional two bar pub set up with a plain public bar and then a separate smarter lounge / dining area with a bit more character. No garden that I could see, but there are some external tables and these were well utilised by drinkers, as was the green village square opposite the pub when the sun was out.
Each bar has three hand pumps and for our week in Rothbury the local Coquetdale Thrum and Northumbrian Brewery Blonde were available alongside a very well kept Box Steam Brewery Funnel Blower. This represented probably the best ale choice to be found in the four Rothbury pubs whilst we were there. We also ate here one evening as well and was the best meal we experienced in the village. It was also good to see the Newcastle Hotel well supported by an eclectic mix of locals, tourists and ramblers.

Large two roomed pub with accommodation. Open fires, serves good food. Comfortable, friendly pub. Two ales on my visit, Tetley Bitter and Wylam Gold Tankard. Will call again.

General Staal left this review about The Newcastle Hotel

This review may be a little late, but I have only just joined the website. I spent a week in Rothbury in August 2009. I went in to the Newcastle to eat and drink on 6 out of 7 nights. The real ales changed three times while I was there, each being very well kept. The food was also absolutely delicious. There are two rooms, one is effectively a dining room, but looks like what was the lounge. The other is a sizeable bar area. I also did the quiz here which was fun. All in all, an excellent hostelry. I must say, I did not stay at the Newcastle, so I don't know what the rooms are like.
