The Punchbowl is a large high risen roadside pub on the busy Porchester road. This is now under the ownership of Ember Inns but seems to me to be one of their older outlets and is not as modern and has not been refurbished as recently as some of their other outlets on Nottingham. As you enter you are faced with a long bar that bends round to the left and large seating/dining areas to the left and right although very food heavy drinkers are welcome on any of the tables. Decor is standard chain pub design with carpets and the bog standard mass produced fixtures and fittings but at least the environment is quite warm and comfortable. Here were 9 hand pulls on the bar but most of these were either off or duplicated and from what the bar man said they usually only have between 3-5 at most times. On my visit the available beer were Everards Tiger (£2.95) Ember Inn Pale ale brewed by Black Sheep (£3.15) And Doomabr., I had Pint of tiger that was fairly nice and tucked into a very chain like steak dinner that was less noteworthy. Frustratingly there was Abbeydale Moonshine available but they had no pump clip for it and instead had a small notice at the bottom of the bar that was easily missed when looking at the direction of were pump clips usually are so they do also sell beer from smaller micros which is good to see, just a shame I didn’t get any. Overall a pretty standard chain pub that I didn’t like as much as some of tier other offerings but serves the surrounding area well and is a decent place to call for a slightly limited but decently well-kept beer. If in the area and you can’t be bothered to venture any further its o to pop into.
