Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Barge Inn

Depending on direction of approach, this is a much larger pub that it might at first appear. Partly opened-out inside, leaving a 'L'-shaped bar with a pool area to the rear. Rustic interior with basic furniture and decor. Front and side patios. Six of seven handpumps in operation, offering R-G-Bar-G pale ale, Hobgoblin, Pedigree, Abbeydale Moonlight, Belvoir Star bitter (£3.00) and Thatchers Heritage cider. Very modest (10p) Camra discount. Only let down by slightly disinterested bar staff.

The Barge feels like a very large pub which somehow doesn't hang together as a pub. This may have been because we were the only customers on our Friday lunchtime visit, which made the place feel cavernous and lacking in atmosphere - other than that being generated by Hollyoaks showing on the television. It may be a very different story on a Saturday afternoon with a match on, although there wasn't any advertising of sporting events being shown.
Service was efficient if rather stony and reluctant.
Beers on: Blue Monkey Infinity, Bass, Bomber and Brains Rev. James. The first two were on good nick and whilst this isn't a truly inspirational selection across four handpumps, it certainly isn't bad.
I agree with Shell Roe, the loos are clean.

An open plan interior with a front lounge section with a large banquette below a picture window with good views over the road to the Erewash Canal. There is a collection of paperbacks to share , an unattached wood burner and other artifacts more at home in somebody's front room. There are undressed brick arches to one side and at the rear a pool table, darts board and flat screen in a more basic area.
There were seven handpumps, three either unused or reversed leaving a choice of Brains Reverend James,CW Bombardier,Bass and Blue Monkey Infinity, the latter two in good condition.Live music is advertised at weekends, although our lunchtime visit was a quiet time, with the young barmaid more interested in her iphone, than humouring a bunch of middle aged boaters. However it deserves to be in the GBG and is a reliable place for a few pints.
