Marston's pub situated in a village-like setting well away from the centre of Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

It was very quiet on my midweek afternoon visit, with just 2 other customers sat in the garden at the rear, which stretches back alongside the car park.

The interior has two rooms that I could see. There was one at the front, with its own bar (no handpulls) and a much larger one at the rear with a number of handpulls. Sadly, only 1 (Wainwright) was clipped. This room was very dark and felt quite depressing with no customers inside.

Not wishing to stay particularly long, I very quickly drank up and left knowing that a return visit is extremely unlikely.

The Duke of Wellington is a stone built pub that is situated away from the middle of Kirkby.
Once inside the pub seems like it did on my first visit here, there is no front door to the pub so you go in the right side entrance.
There is a bar to the front which is bare boarded and has bench seating, the larger lounge to the rear was quite busy with older people who were having the cheap and good looking meals, the lounge is carpeted and has comfy bench seating and chairs, plus a few normal tables and chairs in the middle area.
When i first visited this pub it was a Masfield tied house with two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Jennings Fish King which went down well, the other beer was Pedigree.
On my recent visit there were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Brakspear Oxford Gold which was a very nice drink, the other beer was Hobgoblin.
This is a smart and comfortable pub.
