Formerly The Kings Arms and the sole pub in the tiny village of Skirmett (a former Brakspear pub - The Crown - a hundred yards or so down the road is now a private residence) this freehouse combines pub and restaurant (along with accommodation). This has a bar on entry with small bar area opposite - a nice feature is the semi circular wooden bench seat in front of the large fireplace, with a separate dining are off to the left and an "overspill" dining area to the right, with chunky Sixth Form student-type canvasses. Bare boards throughout, the bar is woody and looks more 1930s than the 18th century suggested by WhatPub. Nice exposed beams in the bar area and a couple of local ales in Rebellion IPA and Loose Cannon Longest Dray along with Red Rock Bitter all the way from Devon. A load of pump clips affixed to a high part of the wall above the bar shows that they have a think about their beer selection, and pints of the Loose Cannon and Red Rock were excellent. They were advertising a Beer Festival for July so plenty of boxes being ticked here.

Very nice old country pub in small village, with a stripped-back rustic feel, bare wooden floors and beamed ceilings. Heavy food trade so a lot of tables laid out, but includes some more convivial drinking areas, with one round a roaring fire. The room to the left has more of a restaurant feel. A couple of local beers plus a guest on offer - sampled well. Not much parking but road quiet.
