Off a fork in the Highmoor-Stoke Row road, this is another of Brakspear's attractive country pubs. Food-oriented, as most are, this offered Brakspear's Bitter at £1.85 a half (the Ringwood Boondoggle had just been taken off and a third pump was unclipped). The interior is suitably low-beamed, woody and cosy, with a good-sized area to the right of the entrance-facing bar which offers respite to drinkers and bar diners, and a tastefully-converted area to the left and up from the bar. The exterior is white-washed, and the generous garden with seating out front segues into the gravelled car park. I noted a Cask Marque sign by the entrance which was at odds with my Brakspear's Bitter, which was served far too cool, so it was pinch the nose, a couple of gulps, then off...
