A great setting in a small village opposite a church - a location not unnoticed by the "Midsomer Murders" producers who have featured this pub's facade on their programme on more than one occasion. This has been suitably foodie over the years and retains this focus, with the majority of the interior set aside for eating (eyes right as you enter from the front), but a square bar to the left usually offers three local ales (Windsor & Eton Guardsman and two from Rebellion - IPA and now non-seasonal Roasted Nuts on my visit) and it's normally well populated by locals who surround the bar. There's a neat garden out back with an Aunt Sally pitch and benches out front for clement weather. This is part of a circular walk which includes The Peacock at Henton, The Inn at Emmington and The Shepherds Crook at Crowell, but best reserved for a summer's day.
