Open again after a long period of closure, the Ben Johnson is on the original line of the A43, making a handy pit stop for the M40 which runs parallel. Back in the day it had gastro-pretensions, but all that is gone and we now have bar with huge telly to the left, snug to the right complete with fire, leading to a dining room beyond.

Tasty enough Landloord on the pumps once the apparatus was cranked into action by the friendly guvnor. I suspect I got the first pint of the day at 6pm. It would have been nice to sit outside but for the freezing wind, this being what passes for spring weather nowadays.

Great decor, and we very much enjoyed the space we got in the bar as the dining room was already full. Very pleasant welcome and service

Unfortunately, there were not a lot of customers, (Sunday lunchtime!) which, bearing in mind some of the reviews on other sites, I found this quite surprising. In turn, this meant that there was a lack of atmosphere, and the two bar/waiting staff seemed to need to take charisma pills, which didn't help.
The food was good. Lovely piece of roast beef, but the fish cake was more cake than fish. However, the Village Idiot was on fine form.
A return visit? The Ben Jonson would not be my first choice.
