The B4100 forms the original line of the A41, and was in pre-M40 days a busy trunk route between the Midlands and the south coast ports. The Wobbly Wheel was a handy stop along the way, though its windswept location on top of the Cotswold escarpment did it no favours. It ended its days as a Brewers Fayre/Premier Inn until the hotel burned down a couple of years ago.

TRG, responsible for such crimes agains humanity as Frankie and Bennie's and Garfunkel's, acquired it and converted it to their upmarket Brunning and Price format, one of those brandings which does its utmost to conceal its execrable corporate parentage.

An awful lot of money has been thrown at this place, and it's done out very stylishly, dark wood, open fires. It's totally food oriented, on entering you get intercepted by vocal-fry inflicted youngsters wanting to show you to a table. That annoyance resisted you will find an impressive array of ales at the bar, though finding somewhere to sit and enjoy them not devoted to eating may be problematic.

However its big plus point is a lovely garden with extensive view over the district, should you be lucky enough to visit on on a calm day.

It's mainly a place to take your in-laws for lunch, provided they like the vast plates of stodge people were devouring when we called. But if you're not into that stop by anyway to try the beers and enjoy the garden if the time is right.

Located on the B4100 between Banbury and Warwick and The 'Wobbly Wheel' for many a year, this now falls under the auspices of Brunning & Price who have contemporised the interior and landscaped the vast garden. As per its previous incarnation, the emphasis remains chiefly on the dry front, with eating areas snaking off left, right and centre. There is, however, an impressive ale front with Brunning & Price Original, Cotswold Windrush Ale, Cottage Pacific, Oakham Citra, Phoenix Midsummer Madness and White Horse Village Idiot available on my visit. The only issue is, location-wise, if you want to give them a good sampling, you'll need to find yourself a 'des' to get yourself back home.
