I haven't visited a rock pub for quite some time, so the novelty factor on this visit was good. I found the young and trendy landlady, plus a handful of locals, very friendly and welcoming. The music was good so stayed slightly longer than expected. Four pumps serving Hobgoblin, Salopian Shropshire Gold, St Austell Proper Job and Old Rosie Cider.

Fortunately I had done my research on this one so it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when entering this fine looking period building. Yes, this is definitely one for those that prefer their gothic Halloween decor all year round.
I guess you need to be in the mood for this one and probably on a dark evening when you have your rock head on and want to get sloshed to Led Zep IV this is probably the best pub in the world. But on a damp wet miserable afternoon in Autumn on a crawl of Shrewsburys fine establishments, this certainly wasn’t for me. Probably also not helped that I likewise went for the house Bikers Fuel Pale Ale, which was a big mistake.

A rockers pub situated opposite the attractive church and once inside you can appreciate the age of the building, there's lots of timber framing, knarled wood, real fireplaces with copper flues and irregular surfaces. The decor is gothic, rock themed with odd figures dotted about and a strange colour scheme near the bar. There are two rooms, the front having long bench seating with worn covers which you might fear will stick to you, while the rear room has some seating booths. It's quite dark and bar blockers were pertched on stolls right infront of the three handpumps which were offering on my trip Salopian Shropshire Gold,Robinson's Trooper and a house Bikers Fuel Pale Ale of unknown provenance, despite asking, and NBSS 2.
Led Zeppelin 4 was playing but not at an outrageous volume and the pub was well occupied by a shabby clientele which the PuG crawlers failed to enhance. No need to include on a crawl unless you like some decent sounds.

Just off Castle Street in the centre of town, it would be quite easy to miss this one, but it's worth stepping off the beaten track for. Set in an old building that doesn't look publike, the interior is slightly rough, with a strange smell apparent on entering: a mingled scent of unwashed dogs and bleach - I would imagine this would become less noticeable later in the day; my visit was soon after opening. On the bar were Salopian Shropshire Gold, Adnams Ghost Ship, Robinsons Trooper and Westons Old Rosie Cider. I quite liked it here despite the smell, one of my other senses being tickled by the presence of the Animals and the Sex Pistols on the sound system.

A rock music based pub that's quite good despite it not having Sonic Youth or Half Man Half Biscuit stuff around. It does have AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Guns and....zzzzzz

No major changes to report here , only the good news that all four handpulls are now in use , one with Westons Old Rosie Cider , the other three have Robinsons Trooper(suprise suprise in a rock pub)UBU Purity and a decent Wye Valley HPA served by the friendly and attractive barmaid .
I have allways enjoyed my visits here even if it is a bit on the strange side .

A few things have been moved around in the last 4 years, but there have been no significant changes in the decor. The one thing that has changed is the beer, they now have Black Sheep Ale on the bar which was a decent pint. I still like the place, even though it's a bit weird.

Very interesting pub. Has a full size statue of a wizard in the window and a larger than life green faced Slayer type character statue inside. Has weird gargoyles and skeletal arms etc on the bar. All the back room has murals on the wall celebrating the likes of Metallica. Has 3 handpumps, but only GK IPA and Old Speckled Hen were on. The IPA was fine. A real mix of characters as you would expect, but all very peaceful really (in a raucous sort of way). I like rock music myself (I was a bit of a long hair in the 70's) but most of the stuff played in here was a bit heavy even for me, pretty much Thrash Metal, but it may not always be like this. I like it ! Even if you don't like the music it's worth a visit for the curiosity value.

I must be getting old or I’d had a bad day but I didn’t get much out of my visit here. The décor is as the chaps say below eclectic, mad and daft which usually appeals to me in some way. Perhaps the moody woman flouncing out the pub or the bickering couple in the doorway as I arrived didn’t help, but the poor quality Greene King beer certainly turned me off the place. I’m not sure what the character from Games Workshop by the door is either, I did like the gargoyles on the bar, they reminded me of someone.

Slightly mad pub , but always has been (last 25 years at least) , the bar is slightly to the right as you enter with a little snug to one side guarded by a lifesize Klingon(or maybe its an Orc) and a Wizard in the window , to the left of the entrance is a room with seating and tables and a back room further around , the walls are covered in murals of rock bands , the signs on the toilet doors are humourous as well , 2 ales on Green King IPA and Speckled Hen . Rock music playing in the background but at a volume that allows conversation , service was good and the bar staff chatty and friendly . There are far better pubs in town , but not many that put a big grin on your face like this one

Bizarre place, a bit like going on a ghost train ride at the fun fair when you were 6. It seems to cater for everything from heavy metal, to Middle Earth fans. Has graffiti art on the walls sporting the names of bands and life-size statues of Orcy looking things (i am not a Middle Earth specialist and i am not sure how life-size an Orcy thing would be) and Wizards.

The interior was pretty dark, so i cant say much about what it was like, but it was a mixed clientele and service seemed happy enough.

No MILD and Green King and Speckky Hen on tap, apart from the usual stuff, so had a drop of cider to refresh.
