I agree with Blue Scrumpy below, this is certainly a good pub. One of the best BCA pubs we have visited. It ticked all the boxes both beer wise and atmosphere, so we spent some time in here going through the beer board as the the range of guest beers and quality were exceptional. The landlady was also welcoming and friendly, a lot of happy faces in here including my own.

Black Country Ales pub that is certainly the best pub I have visited in Shifnal to date.

Unlike the Plough, all handpulls here were clipped. Beers are listed on TV screens, as I believe is the case for all BCA pubs.

The selection on our Saturday afternoon visit had the regulars from BCA - BFG, Fireside & Pig on the Wall, along with 6 guests - Thwaites Wainwright, Fixed Wheel Mr 60%, Newby Wyke White Sea, Bateman's St George's Glory, Coach House St George & Oakham Session Stout.

Two real ciders were Lilley's Raspberry Mojito & Weston's Rosie's Pig Rhubarb Cider. A craft beer listed was Goose Island Today's Haze.

The busiest pub we'd visited at this point of the day, it certainly seems to have a good local following.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Anvil

Solid Black Country Ales pub, quite low in stature so obviously of quite some age (a view supported when you find the exposed ceiling beams within). There is also a more recent rear extension, but all parts have been refurbished in the same semi-traditional style (with lots of local history photographs on the walls). A patio beer garden (with fake grass) and a smokers shelter can be found at the back. With a total of ten handpumps, I found four of the brewery's own beers - including Chain Ale (£3.30) - four guests and a pair of ciders.

Another good pub from Black Country Ales. 8 ales and 2 ciders on when I called. All described on the board as you walk in and behind the bar. The beer was in great shape. I am a big fan of this chain and this place is no exception! I would happily call again.

The Anvil has been acquired by Black Country Ales and should be open again in a few months.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Anvil

This is a white rendered cottage styled pub, with dormer windows, with Guest House and a patio area.

The interior of the pub is in white and wood panel mainly. It is open plan as such, meandering, as you walk in, around the bar and then into an area that had a dart board. There was a tiled floor and a brick fireplace. There were some general prints on the walls - i think birds (feathered) featuring along with some general bits of ephemera, such as a Laurel & Hardy figurine. The service was good and the clientele few, but mixed. The background music was general and at an OK level.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Everard's Tiger on handpull, along with two brews particular to the Anvil - Anvil Hammer, which was fine and Anvil Ridgehead - i had this originally, but it was on the turn and changed without quibble by the nice lady behind the bar.

All in all, one of the better pubs in Shifnal, a nice game of darts, a nice beer and nice environment. Will be back if in shifnal again.

Very friendly locals pub. Had two beers on called Anvil Best Bitter and Anvil Ridgeway. They're either brewed for the pub or rebadged, but Mick, the landlord wouldn't tell me which brewery brews them. No matter they were both in good condition. I only called in for one but ended up having a second. I'll be calling in again now I'm working in the area.
