A wonderful village freehouse with 17th Century roots, now opened out at the front and extended at the back.  The frontage is part of a terrace, and there is a terraced, paved garden at the back which backs onto a gravel car park.  The B&B accommodation is relatively new.  There is a large front bar, created by knocking the two front rooms through and causing a step in the floor levels, and there is a separate dining room.  There is also a pool room.  The bar is mainly carpeted and has a mix of table and barstools.  There is an inglenook fireplace at one side, with a TV next to it, which was switched off.  The reception was lukewarm at first, but it warmed up when the pub became busier.  Food was excellent – we had filled baguettes which were freshly cooked ingredients and well garnished.  The main food menu looked impressive, but no-one was eating at that point.  There were some well-behaved children in with one of the regulars, and some equally well-behaved dogs, for whom snacks were also available to buy.  Four handpumps on the bar, one dry, the others dispensing Doombar, Tribute and Proper Job.  It would have been good to see some good local cider, but only Thatcher’s Haze and Gold were on offer.  The beer was in excellent condition and justified their GBG entries.  I’ll definitely be back.

Quick update, this is one of the more improved local pubs in the area. Was worried for a bit when it got "St Austallised" but fortuntately their ales only lasted a short while, now back to Butcombe, Otter Bitter, Teignworthy Reel Ale and a guest, recently Cheddar Pot Holer and last time Stocklinch Ramblers Gold, a new local brewery. Food is good too.

3 or 4 real ales on in this Local pub. Tried Cheddar potholer which was well kept. They also had Otter 4.5% and Teignworthy on. Seemed quite busy on an October mid week evening

Really successful family run traditional pub. Central Village location, friendly local trade and always worth a visit. Walkers are always made welcome. Best cheese in the West!
