Part of the Ember Inns group, so I was able to drink a free pint here during the recent Cask Ale Week using one of their vouchers. In fact, when the landlady handed me my free pint she expressed surprise that I hadn't printed out a handful of them, but I was being honest (or foolish) and pointed out that the conditions stipulated one voucher per customer. There are two banks of four hand pumps here, one in the front bar and another round the back of a pillar at the side. Beers available when I was here were Tetleys Bitter, Abbeydale Moonshine, York Terrier and Brentwood Spooky Moon, which was on offer at £2.75 a pint, for those with no vouchers. As I'm used to paying a lot less than that at many Sheffield pubs, I don't consider that much of an enticement, but it was a pleasant enough beer.

The pub is obviously a genuinely old building, but it appears to have undergone so many transformations internally that it's almost impossible to say which of the low beams and exposed brick walls are genuine and which modern. Most of the tables were set up for, and indeed occupied by, diners, but there are some high stools near the bar and a couple of settees too, so drinkers are also well catered for.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Rising Sun

The Rising Sun is a decent looking stone built pub in a leafy suburb of Sheffield.
Once inside there is one largish room with different drinking areas this room is smart carpeted and comfortable.
There were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Coach House Coachmans bitter and this was a decent drink the other beers were Taylor Landlord and Tetley bitter.
This was a decent pub to have a few drinks in.
