Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Den Engel

A specialist Belgian beer bar in a market town is certainly unusual, and one also offering a couple of real ales doubly so. Anyway, it features two separate bars with a central servery, plus a side dining room on the route between the two, all decorated in a light café-bar style. I went for Arbor's Mosaic (£4.10), one of the cask offerings, with the other coming from Dancing Duck, but at least 11 continental beers were available on draught (at a price).

A fairly nice pub. The bar serves both the front room and the rear room and Belgian based beers were to the fore. There is real ale available. The beer today was served by a grumpy old bloke so service with a smile was not on offer on this visit. That said it is a decent enough place for a drink.

Haven't been here for years, and enjoyed my visit on Saturday. It is one of the 2014 Good Beer Guide pubs, and has a good choice of ales available. Real Ales were from Titanic, Bradfield and Holdens and there was an excellent choice of Belgian beers on the fonts too. We decided to try a couple of Belgian beers from Bosteels and Senne breweries and they were great. There was a restaurant upstairs and they were advertising a tapas Sunday meal. Worth popping in while in Leek.

You enter the pub from a side door, the pub consists of a central bar with three drinking areas. The front bar displays six silver fonts serving draught Belgian beers. There was also an extensive range of bottled beers. Two ales on offer on our visit, Skinners and Bass.

The customer is never wrong. While other pubs in Leek are struggling to survive Den Engel is usually packed. Plenty of staff and best range of quality beers for miles. The (usually four) real ales are well kept, constantly changing and at times Quirky! Yet the best kept secret is the food. I have travelled to most countries and tasted some exceptional dishes but the Fayre at Den Engel matches the best. If this place was in London they could easily tripple the prices.

Fantastic selection of Belgian bottled beers and a good range of lager fonts, this place attracts a lively mix of customers and quite a few women only groups who appreciate the unusual tipples available. One negative was the selection and quality of their real ales and a couple of pints we sampled were dodgy but probably because no one was drinking real ale in any quantity.Den Engel could easily remove their real ale ,just focus on their excellent bottled selection and the place would still be full.Great experience for anyone visiting this attractive town but probably not worthy of a GBG entry.

Plenty of selection of beers which all taste great but shame about the staff as seem very rude and stuffy.
