At first glace a village local, as you go round into the enormous car park you realise it has been vastly extended with huge restaurant area behind. Retains a proper drinking area with something of a public bar feel, middle area which is cosier if a bit dark due to lack of much outside light, and the large carvery at the rear. Part of the Great British Carvery group and feels slightly too corporate, which prevents much character, but appeared well-run and beers seemed in good order, including SIBA guests (from Cottage at time of visit). Certainly much better for both eating and drinking than your usual family chain place.

2018 update: Now part of Stonehouse Carvery & Pizza chain, which appears to be slightly more downmarket, and draught ale selection reduced to, errrr, Doom Bar. Rating reduced.

A snug locals bar with a low beamed ceiling and a large restaurant area. After stares and glares upon entering, you find that the regulars are a beady-eyed and challenging bunch, ever-eager to know your business and to impart theirs upon you. One ale, a (nice) pint of Pride; perhaps the only saving grace.

I couldn't wait to leave.
