Good place to visit if on a walk/cycle trip nearby. The pub makes a point of appreciating cyclists as well as Camra members. A very reasonable and unique choice of real ale available. The food can be slow going admiteddly but is of a good standard when it arrives.

This is a delightful old village pub situated in excellent walking country in the Surrey Hills. The sign by the entrance rightly requests that walkers leave their muddy boots on the step. Just off the main road up a side turning, the pub has an elevated position and nestles among some old cottages. The front room has the bar, a bar billiards table, a TV (showing tennis) and a collection of hunting/shooting photographs and an old framed Guinness advert. Behind is an area set for diners but with a side area adjacent for drinkers directly behind the bar with a hatch for service. Wooden flooring, lots of exposed brickwork, a through fireplace with stacked logs.
Outdoor seating is available at the front and also in the rear sloping grassy garden which is accessed from the side of the pub down a series of steps. There are water bowls out here for canine customers.
The main food menu is priced towards the upper end for pub food with most stuff over £10 but the lunchtime menu has baguettes and ploughmans lunches priced more reasonably, generally between £5-£7.
The pub has a good LocAle policy, with Pilgrim Surrey Pale Ale, Hammerpot HPA and Arundel Castle on the pumps (a barrel of Arundel on stillage too), Dark Star Hophead had just gone and a Surrey Hills beer was being prepared to come on.
A regular GBG entry in the last few years, this is a pub I'll definitely return to when walking in the area.
