A pub I would describe as pleasant but not particularly remarkable in any way. L shaped inside with wooden flooring and a fair bit of exposed brickwork on the walls, casual seating throughout. Five handpumps in all but a choice of three beers, two from Fullers, Pride and Seafarers plus Shere Drop from Surrey Hills Brewery. It was a hot day and as I was driving
I settled for a shandy. A nice enough pub that served it's purpose.

Corner location with the bar ahead of the main door on entering. A few timber beams with brasses in the main bar area, a shelf had a few random bits of paraphernalia such as an old mincing machine, kettle, oil can etc, there was a fire lit to the right in a large hearth. The room winds around behind the bar to a large and rather bland conservatory area that doesn't really feel in keeping with the main pub. This area looked to be mainly used for eating judging by the table set up but it was deserted on our visit. Another small room to the left of the bar had a small fireplace, unlit on our visit, but which felt a bit like a snug albeit with the toilets off. The very large garden with plenty of benches has a seperate adult only area.
Beers as listed by RR below and shown on a chalkboard over the bar. Pump clips and mats around the place suggest a reasonable guest rotation policy.
Interestingly, documentation pinned beside the bar suggests that the pub's new owners may be intending to redevelop the pub (still as a pub I might add) including the removal of the conservatory.

The Plough has reopened on the 10th November after being closed for a month. There is now a new licensee .The difference in this pub is unbelievable ! Its a lot cleaner ,smells fresher, glasses dont stick to the table anymore,Its had a coat of emulsion and just looks and feels better,And the fire is lit!!!!gone are those damn Newfoundlands belonging to the previous owner. The improved quality of all the beers and lagers is remarkable.I know its early days but its good to see a landlord who knows what he's doing. The handpull beers are changing regularly I now look forward to my now daily visit to sample new choices [my favorite is Doombar]

This pub doesn’t seem to have changed since Nick’s visit earlier in the year, although when I was in there at mid-afternoon on Friday there were no children present – indeed it was very quiet in there with perhaps only a handful of other customers. I didn’t see a menu, or anyone eating, but the bright conservatory area at the back looked like the area where diners would usually sit. There was a log fire burning away on the right as you enter; there’s also a small room on the left with only two or three tables/chairs in it, and another fireplace (but unused on the occasion of my visit). There’s a large garden at the back with a number of picnic benches.
There were four real ales available – Hobgoblin, Bombardier, Doom Bar and Harvey’s Best, with a fifth hanpump unused. My Harvey’s Best was fine, but my companion’s seemed a little flat and he moved on to the Doom Bar for our “one for the road” before the short walk to the station for our train home. I quite liked this pub. It felt comfortable just sitting there and whiling away an hour so. I don’t think that I would travel to Cobham just to visit this pub, but I would be happy to visit again if I was in the area.

Most pubs in the eye-wateringly wealthy Surrey stockbroker belt try to milk their market for all its worth and end up attempting to be upmarket gastropubs with every last ounce of character removed in the pursuit of profit. And they often fail, the punters round here may be rich but they aren't daft and decline to be rooked for fifteen quid for Brake Brothers boil in a bag lamb shank,

But there are exceptions which prove the rule and the Old Plough remains a traditional family local, ticking all the boxes. There are a couple of discrete drinking areas at the front with a more restauranty conservatory to the rear and a pleasant enough garden given the suburban settings.

It's in the GBG - there's a nice selection of beers including examples from Ascot and Sambrooks the other day in good condition. Food is decent pub grub fairly priced. The welcome is friendly.

My only grumbles are too many kids and perhaps a little scruffy, but even so it is worth a visit and, being very close to the station, a good target for an afternoon or evening out.
