Basically a restaurant, very few non-dining tables and there was a faint air of incredulity that I was just popping my head in for a quick snifter. Reviews from 10+ years ago call it ‘warm and cosy’ which isn’t really how it is now – has clearly been gutted and refitted. Cask-wise, we had 2x Sheps; Whitstable Bay and a pretty cardboardy and fizzy Spitfire (NBSS 1.5). Very little here for the toper. Of more interest is the private hire C.16th barn at the rear, which is pretty impressive.

A food led countryside pub, most of the elongated room was full of tables set for dining, however it's ok to use them for drinking purposes. Three handpumps on the bar were serving Shepherd Neame beers, Spitfire,Whitstable Bay and Masterbrew the later only being in average condition. Not really a drinkers pub and therefore not for me.

A pleasant country roadside pub within 5 minutes of the M3 with ample parking, good food and reasonable beer. Food was wholesome and freshly cooked, and the staff was attentive and helpful. I asked for a chicken curry - what arrived wasn't what I'd call a curry, it was more a spicy soup, but it was good nonetheless, and I have no complaint. I had a pint of Kent's Best, but I'm afraid to say it wasn't the best pint of Shepherd and Neame I've had. There were two other Shep's ales on but as I was driving I couldn't try them. I've drunk here in the past, however, so I know the beer is usually better than this. Well worth stopping here if you hit this area at lunchtime, and it provides a welcome relief from the motorway.
