A made-over high street local, closest to the train station. A square room on entering with a pool table in an alcove off to the right and what looked like a function room behind a pair of closed doors. The paint shade of choice, some sort of dark grey/green concoction, made for a gloomy feel inside but it was at least carpeted and the heating was on. Two pumps at the bar with just Doom Bar available – well, when I say available, it was only so after repeated hammering of the pump by the barmaid via two pints worth of froth, and even then, I was asked to judge the final output which worked in my favour – it was fizzy and apply-tasting so I declined to take the transaction further. Fortunately she had pre-empted this judgement and offered me something else instead, so the classic Guinness standby came into play. So not a particularly encouraging experience, really. 4.5

A largish pub close to the railway station. It's split leveled and opened out inside, entertainment consists of Sky Sports and a pool table along with an obligatory fruit machine. The decor colour scheme was a vomit inducing mixture of purple and coffee on the walls mirrored by the mauve based multicolured carpet, the ceiling being a standard white, seating was mixed tables and chairs, some high seating near the windows and some bar stools. On the bar was the normal range of keg products and two handpumps, these were showcasing the Sharps duo of Doom Bar and Atlantic,no one else in the pub was drinking cask and my sixth beer sense told me to back off,the quality may have been alright but I decided on a Kronenburg.I cant see myself stopping off here again.
