Chef & Brewer place with rather more character than usual due to the agedness of the building, with a pretty black and white timber facade. Oh, and the fact it’s in Shere. Pretty small capacity and presumably converted from something much more traditional in order to feed the tourists. There are a bunch of small little areas over a number of levels inside, along with wonky beams and the usual C&B touches. Sunday lunch time on my visit so the squawking kids were here en masse for their portions of ping-and-fling food. Four pumps at the bar with three ales and a cider; GK IPA, St Austell Tribute Little Beer Little Geyser and Westons Old Rosie cider. My Little Beer was a fizzy and stinky concoction with a distinct GK overtone and very expensive at £4.30 – the locals round here are clearly not bothered about being fleeced. Next time I’m in Shere I think I’ll stick to ice cream shop.

Chef & Brewer in very old timbered building, with various interconnecting rooms in touristy village. Outside there is a courtyard area. Ales seemed in good order (Cask Marque listed). Parking can be difficult but village car park not far.

Very much open. Nice spot to drop in after a nearby walk in the lovely countryside. The pub still has an old fashioned feel to the place, although in the middle of the pub the high seating area is a tad off-putting. The beers are very good with Pride, TEA, Otter beer and one other. Well worth a visit for a drink or to eat.

Presently closed, and removal of pub sign and trappings made me wonder whether its days as a pub were over. However, it's due to re-open on Thursday after a refurb, still as the White Horse, a Chef and Brewer, with a new pub sign.
