There’s a large mural depicting the Warwickshire Regiment on the side of the pub, and the military theme continues inside this small L-shaped pub. The 15 or so locals had all gathered along the banquettes and tables that run under the front windows leaving me plenty of room to sit in the right rear. The bar counter supports Carling, Madri, Birra Moretti, Worthington’s Creamflow and Inch’s Cider. There are also two handpumps, the Doom Bar was off leaving Slaughterhouse Brewing’s Saddleback as the lone cask option. All the locals were drinking lager so I had half a Carling. Arsenal were playing Man City via Sky on the two televisions, which were muted for some background music. The service was polite, but I’ll leave this place to the locals in future.

A detached cottage style pub in cream render with some red paintwork and large windows

The interior is an L shaped room around the bar, which is in red and white décor. At our visit, there was a large screen Sky TV with the football results and there is was a dart board. The service was fine and the clientele mixed, the place being pretty busy. It seems like a basic kind of pub really, however the drinks choice is better than that.

Beer; tap stuff, with Slaughterhouse Bitter, Jennings Cumberland Ale and a good Theakston’s MILD.

This pub was the best of those in the immediate area. It had a good real ale choice that included a MILD, The Black Horse has no real ale, the King’s Head just one. Worth a visit.
