Large town centre drinking den, housed in attractive building built in 1894 as The Vine (note the nice stained glass above the doorway). I went in due to the promise of eight ales on the go according to the Good Beer Guide, with a CAMRA discount (10%) advertised at the bar. There was a decent selection of local and national brands available plus a real cider (Old Rosie). My Williams Red was £2.20 and was a bit vinegary - I got it exchanged for Mad Goose but there was clearly a bit of tardiness about it from bar side and it wasn’t taken off in the 20 minutes I was there. Outside of the ale, this is a typical town centre drinking barn – large open plan layout, loud music and muted SKY Sports. A quiz night was advertised and the place is apparently is very popular with the students, this being pretty much the first place they hit from the walk into town from campus and cheap to boot.

I wasn’t overly impressed given the quality of the other pubs I’d also done that day. You pays your money and you takes your chances...

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Hogshead

Imposing corner premises, having a large main bar with high ceilings. Not a great deal of character inside, but the 'beer garden' is a curious affair since it is housed in what can only be described as a large shed with most of its roof missing (actually better than it sounds, with mirrors on the wall too!). Beer-wise, there are seven handpumps offering a good range of real ale (including an excellent pint of Holdens Black Country Bitter at £2.25). Overall, rather better than I was expecting.

Typical city centre modern bar type pub with the odd traditional feature such as an open fire place (not used), large open plan layout with a couple of nooks to hide yourself away in if that’s what you fancy. One long bar to the right as you enter the pub, pool table straight ahead and about four large flat screen TVs normally showing sky sports spread around the pub. Standard pub food is served throughout the day, Gets very busy when Wolves FC are playing at home, bouncers on the door on match day.

Regular Ales are Wells Bombardier, Enville Ale and up to FIVE changing guest beers usually from small breweries in the West Midlands or neighbouring counties but occasionally from further a field (GBG2010).

A modernish bar which is surprisingly good for real ale, worth a visit just for the beer, discount for card carrying CAMRA members.

I think i visited this place just at the best time. It had been several years since my last visit and i am not even sure if it was the Hogshead then.

It's a town centre place, sort of in the JDW mould. Here there were a couple of pool tables on top. The place was a little bland and a touch scruffy, bar staff friendly and it was quick service.

Usual tosh with 6 real ales; Bombardier, Jennings Tom Fool, GMT 3 Rivers, JW Lees Game On, Moorhouse Black Cat and Enville's Old Porter. The Black Cat MILD was decent, the Old Porter first rate. All in all a great visit and intend to go again.

ROB Camra left this review about Hogshead

This is probably the best of the new style Hogs Head's that I have ever been in. A typical one roomed chain bar but a great selection of cask ales that have always been well kept in my opinion. I've been back several times whilst working around Wolverhampton.
