Graham Coombs left this review about Block & Gasket

A curious mish-mash of a place with different styles scattered across different levels. It is all a bit contrived and feels as though a design student straight out of college has been given the corporate design manual and a pin. Sports screens proliferate and there is a pool table in one upstairs area. Ales on were Doom Bar, London Pride and Bedlam 6 Nations, which sadly proved undrinkable and was exchanged for a tasteless Pride. There are also a clutch of craft keg taps in the back wall. My least favourite pub in the town.

Steve C left this review about The Jacobs Post

Jacobs Post was known as Hogshead up until late 2005 when its name changed after an extensive refurbishment. Due to the central location it is popular with shoppers during the daytime and in the evenings the younger population of the area take over. This is a very big pub with lots of different seating areas up and down various steps throughout the building. There is an area at the rear of the pub that houses a pool table and plasma screens are positioned throughout for showing Sky Sports. The Crystal Palace v Cardiff Carling Cup semi was being shown during my visit on Tuesday evening so the pub wasn’t that busy. Along with the standard draught there are five hand pumps on the bar that were drawing Courage Best (x2), Dark Star Meltdown, Bombardier and Old Rosie cider. The food is very cheap and there are numerous deals that one would expect to find in a Spoons.
This is a place that I would avoid on Thursdays due to the weekly karaoke and at the weekend when the DJs are rolled out.
I think that JPs is a perfectly acceptable place to watch the football, but I personally wouldn’t bother when there is no match being aired by Sky.
