Named after the local Army officer whose statue was the first to be unveiled in St Georges Square, this is a fairly unremarkable Wetherspoons built into the ground floor of a modern office block opposite Central Station.

As one would expect, it doesn’t score highly on the charm factor but it is spacious and functional and ticks all the requirements you expect from the chain. The modern interior is one large rectangular open plan room with a couple of low walls and raised sections to break up the monotony. Outside is a narrow strip of seating from where you can observe the traffic swerving around the corner or trains pulling into the station. There were a couple of large flat screens at each end of the pub for more traditional viewing entertainment.

The lengthy bar sports 6 hand pumps but not too much of interest to the Glaswegian ale drinker with the ‘Spoons regular suspects joined by a couple of local ales that were easily found elsewhere. Neverthe less it was a handy base for a few breakfast beers being 2 minutes walk from my weekend bolthole so it wasn’t without its uses.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Sir John Moore (JD Wetherspoon)

Large rectangular bar with two slightly-raised seating areas at one end. Low ceiling. Patio tables out front with some shelter from the upper storeys of the charmless building. Busy on a Sunday afternoon. Six handpumps, but nothing of local interest so had a pint of Hydes Winter Fuggle (£2.40). Near Central station.

A typical, modern Spoons, consisting of a single large bar marred by multiple tv screens and rather lacking in character. It was noisy, but not overcrowded, and while there was no actual hostility, it wasn't a comfortable place to enjoy a drink. There were six ales on, I had a pint of Ruddles which was rather bland and not that well kept. It definitely didn't feel like a pub,and I'm not too bothered about coming back when there are so many decent pubs within a few minutes' walk.

A decent enough, fairly standard shopfront-style Wetherspoons, very close to Central Station. Wide frontage, low ceiling, very little natural light except right at the front. There's some outside seating, sheltered by the overhang from the floors above.

Accessibility: Stepfree to enter, and also through to the bar and most of the seating. Accessible toilet on the same level; other toilets are in the basement, down a flight of stairs.
