Very standard Spoons by numbers near the station, nothing to see here

As noted below this is an old school Spoons with the old blue and gold plastic signage and consisting of a large square room with the bar on the left and typical fixtures and fittings. After I arrived here people started drifting back from the rugby match in Cardiff but they were a harmless and friendly enough crowd.
The beer choice wasn't that great as after stripping out the JDW Trio Of Doom and ciders there was just the Shepherd Neame Todd the Axeman and Mumbles Oystermouth Stout. I went for the Todd the Axeman (£2.30) which was in very good nick.
For me none of the Newport Spoons were much good but this and the Godfrey Morgan were the better of the (current) four.

Pretty functional mid 90’s Spoons in an ugly building by Newport train station. Décor is JDW’s attempt at Farrow & Ball shades but to be honest it's a mish-mash of salmon, mushroom and burgundy and it is as naff as it sounds. An initially impressive set of ten pumps, though of those available two were cider, leaving an American collab, Jennings Sneck Lifter and an under-par Brecon Fan Haf. Struggled to get much out of this one, it's train station fodder only.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The John Wallace Linton (JD Wetherspoon)

Run-of-the-mill 'spoons housed in an ugly single-storey building, with very dull interior and a few dismal tables out on the pavement. Packed and noisy when I visited due to international rugby on the TVs. On the plus side, had a reasonable choice of real ales from ten handpumps (including Box Clever Brewer's Blizzard at just £1.99).

Named after a local Naval Officer posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross in 1943, this Wetherspoons is about as ‘Spoons by numbers as the chain gets. The pub is situated in the Cambrian Centre shopping mall which is due to be redeveloped at some point so I’m not sure how this will affect the pubs future.

The interior is one large, open plan, characterless, barn with every JDW trademark going. The pros included a good number of local ales among the 10 hand pumps which is great for us outsiders. Service was good despite the place being well populated on an early Saturday evening and I didn’t spot too many undesirables but maybe I was a bit early.

Good for everything you expect for ‘Spoons. That’s about it.

A large open plan Wetherspoon located a short walk from the train station.
