Old school faux Victoriana Spoons in a statement building. Comedy South Walian doormen who were doing a passable impression of Max & Paddy. Disappointingly just two (disappointing) ales - GK and Doom Bar - so I went for a new one of the foreign louts, Tusker (which was pretty good). Service was fine. Probably a decent Spoons when not in the fag-end of COVID regs; it was rammed, so clearly popular.

A large Spoons hotel dominating the centre of the pedestrianised shopping area. The bar is in traditional style with a calming cream and wood colour scheme, extending through three large rooms. Ales included 4 Welsh beers alongside the usual suspects.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Wyndham Arms (JD Wetherspoon)

Substantial old inn, now a Wetherspoon hotel so retaining that tradition. Partly opened out and totally refitted in the usual way, leaving a variety of seating / dining areas in an overall 'L' shape around a rather cramped three-part bar counter. Mixed selection of real ales from a total of nine handpumps, with the more interesting offerings all being of higher strength, but my Boss Black stout (£1.08, half) was in fine form.

This is a Spoons Hotel where the ground floor is one of their pubs. It's a large single room with typical furnishings.
The bar has two sets of hand pumps with banks of three and six. The three just had Abbot a cider and one unused. The six had RCH Double Header, Deuchar's IPA, Stonehenge Pigswill, Brecon Welsh Beacons, Rhymney Kings Ale and one unused. I went for the Kings Ale (£1.99) which was in very good nick. I thought this was a fairly average Spoons, it is GBG 2015 listed.

Stayed for a very pleasant weekend (admittedly a couple of years ago) - £80 for three nights = bargain! Lodge rooms very good, pub better than average 'spoons with good, well kept beers - a pint of Engine Oil goes well with the Farmhouse Breakfast at 9am!! - well, I wasn't driving that day. Above average.

When ever I visit Bridgend I always call into Weatherspoons, its fantastic value for money. The last visit my partner and I had a breakfast and it was excellent. There is always a great selection at the bar for real ale drinkers priced at £1.50 a pint sometimes even cheaper. As stated in another review getting served is a drawback,I've seen as many as ten waiting to get served and one behind the bar trying to cope with it all,I put up with this because I'm only there for two pints,I could not drink here as a regular.

Take a book with you to read whilst you wait to get served.
