Named in honour of Evan James (Ieuan ap Iago), wordsmith of the Welsh national anthem 'Hen wlad fy nhadau'. Inside is an oblong room with a sunken area at the front and side with a specifically labelled ‘family area’ at the rear, not seen one of those in JDW before. Skylight in the roof, so less gloomy than expected on a grey rainy morning. Little of interest décor-wise, just some 6 Nations bunting and jumbo flags. Two guest cask - my Purple Moose Calon Lan was a bit stale (NBSS 2). Didn’t get much out of this one despite the GBG listing.

An interesting old building at the front but behind is a large industrial-type hall with the hated large industrial-type ducting. Other than that this a pleasant small-town Spoons, with a patio at the rear. The beer range isn't bad with 3 local guest ales and one from further afield joining the 2 ciders and the terrible trio.

A rather bland Wethy's that was not helped by the disappointing beer choice. The Abbots and Ruddles were doubled up plus one cider and 3 pumps with the clips reversed leaving 2 more casks and one of those was Doom bar.In all fairness i could have been unlucky and just caught the pub on a bad day.

Just out of interest, the building used to be the post office and sorting office.

The name of this pub is the Welsh name for John James who penned the Welsh national anthem. It's an old stone building for which I can't pin down the original use, but it doesn't look like a shop. The entrance is up some steps leading to a room set out for eating with the bar area on the right at the rear. The bar is in a high ceilinged room with exposed aircon ducts. There is also a patio. On my Thursday evening visit there was a good mix of people.
There are two sets of five hand pumps which arguably had the best choice of S Wales valley Spoons. There were two ciders, the JDW Trio Of Doom, Acorn Barnsley Bitter, Borough Iron Runner, Glamorgan Thunerbird & Old Rig and Boss Blonde. I went for the Old Rig (£2.15) which was in excellent condition.
I thought this was a good Spoons.
