Old Boots left this review about The Black Bull Inn/Tarw Du (JD Wetherspoon)

Workmanlike spoons on two floor levels, not hugely memorable. The slightly higher and smaller part has the counter and some tables, the toilets are on this level too. The lower and a bit larger side has the usual spoons style seating, the disabled facility is here. It’s quite a small spoons and has two banks of five but doubled up. Beer quality was pretty good NBSS 3

A less than obvious place for a Spoons - feels rather cut-off from the immediate town centre - but nonetheless rammed on a Thursday with a queue to get in. Excellent COVID service at the door and on the floor, well-drilled staff. Ecclesiastical feel in the upper bar area, very high vaulted ceiling and arches behind the bar– is this an ex-church? And a prominent Welsh flag to remind you that this is the spiritual home of the Gogs. Just one guest ale, a so-so Rudgate Valkyrie (NBSS 2.5). We ate here and the food, for Spoons standards, was very good. A mixed bag but left happy enough - mainly due to the service, rather than the beer.

Decent spoons which was busy on my lunchtime visit. I noticed big Hand brewery Havok and Prescott Summer Season's Best among the beer offerings. I went for the Havok which was fine. We had a quick lunch and the food was decent. Happy to call in again.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Black Bull Inn (JD Wetherspoon)

This High Street 'spoons is not quite the old inn it first appears, since it becomes obvious once inside the bar area has been converted from a church. The historical notes on the menu also reveals that the larger seating / dining area (located down four steps to one side) was previously a presbytery (which in turn had been converted from some livery stables). Nine real ales and ciders available from the two banks of five handpumps, from which I selected a warming Hanlon's Goodwill Festive Ale (a bargain at just £2.05).

This Spoons is a church conversion and has two distinct areas, the bar area to the right and a square room to the left. The bar area has high tables and chairs and a high ceiling while the other area is a square low ceilinged room filled with low tables and chairs. There is what looked like a paved balcony at the rear of this room.
The bar has ten hand pumps which had 3 unused, the two GK beers, Deuchar's IPA, Hawkshead Vienna Lager, Well's Bombardier Gold, Great Orme Celtica and Big Bog Quagmire. I went for the Big Bog Quaagmire (£2.05) which I caught the last pint of so probably wasn't as good as it could be and the Vienna Lager (£2.05) which was in fine nick. Some of the unused pumps were being sorted out while I was here. I thought this was a better than average Spoons.

Compared to what's around this place is a haven in a sea of mediocrity. Usual Wetherspoon's thingys but when you're here you'll be grateful for this place.
