This is a Lloyds No. 1 in the modern Chichester Gate Leisure Park just a short walk from Chichester Station. Ironically it is right next door to a fitness centre. Externally it looks more like a branch of IKEA than a pub but inside it is OK for a modern place with two floors and some exposed brickwork at the front end. There are also some exposed ventilation ducts which are not exactly attractive but I've seen this before in modern JDWs. One disadvantage of the large open space is that the sound of people chatting is amplified and echoes around the building.
The bar is on the left as you enter and has two banks of five hand pumps but with some turned round. I didn't note all the beers but there were the usual 2 GK Beers, Doom Bore and the Adnam's Birra Armada. As I had came here to eat I ordered a mixed grill that included a pint of the Birra Armada which was in excellent condition and appeared on the receipt as a £1.99 guest. A minor food rant here, the mixed grill seemed a bit meagre compared to some I have had.
Its Lloyds No. 1 credentials were obvious as by the time I left there were bouncers on the door and I'm sure I could hear music playing upstairs.
I much preferred it here to the poor experience I had at the town centre Dolphin and Anchor but would imagine it would be hell on earth when all the younger folk descend on it later on a Saturday night.
