This is a relatively small Spoons reassuringly close to the Railway Station. Although it dates back to 1999 it isn't entirely the usual identikit shop conversion from that era. As you enter the bar is on the right and to the left down a single step is a fairly open room with seating around the walls and a few tables. The furnishings in here didn't seem to be rammed close together as in so many Spoons.
Sadly there was a table with three ghastly mothers who thought it was acceptable to allow their unruly offspring to use an iron support pillar as a maypole and to run amok up and down the side seating.
To make things worse one of them had either recently consumed a huge quantity of beer or was expecting another brat.
The beer selection was not brilliant as they wasted the left bank of five hand pumps with the two usual GK beers and the three national blands, Doom Bore, Pride and Broadside. The right hand five had one unused, Itchen Valley Tea Clipper, Arundel Beastie, Turner's Best and Goldmark Hop Idol. I went for the Beastie and Hop Idol (£2.20) both in excellent condition.
Overall I quite liked this one which makes it such a shame about the stupid women allowing their kids to get bored while they gossiped away to each other.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The George Inn (JD Wetherspoon)

Modest 'spoons comprising two rooms: the larger one with the usual dark decor, but the smaller room (down a single step) is much lighter and rather more appealing. Small patio are to one side. Ten handpumps offering the usual suspects plus a couple of more interesting guests (e.g. Acorn Brewery's Kashmir, £2.35).
