Stuck in Lockdown 2 for Covid 19, so thought I would go through my notes and add a few words on the pubs and bars visited after being released from Lockdown 1. This was my first pub for a drink on 14 July, and I did enjoy my Lymestone Stone Faced despite nerves at starting to get out and about again. The bar was pretty full and folk appeared to be enjoying their freedom again, despite the restrictions being imposed.

A good sized pub, but unfortunately quite dated in décor and featureless. Bright orange walls at the rear the pub and a free standing black wrought iron work gas fire basket, could be described as two stand out items. Beer wise, nothing outstanding on the cask line up, apart from a Banks and Taylor SOD, A 5% at £2.15 a pint.

Not the most welcoming spoons you will ever see. The usual 3 beers plus Titanic Iceberg and Red Racer from Canada on my last visit which were in decent shape.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Pear Tree (JD Wetherspoon)

Run-of-the-mill 'spoons with an undistinguished, long, rectangular bar with the usual features. Only six real ales from the two banks of five handpumps, but apart from the Ruddles (£1.95) all the other beers were 5% plus which wasn't really what I was after. I was also going to eat here, but the atmosphere wasn't that inviting so I moved on.

A totally nondescript Wethers. A large oblong box place with the long servery to your left on entering. 10 handpumps on the bar with the 3 usual suspects taking up six of the pumps. There doesn't seem to be anything of note in here. Clean, tidy and average.

This is a low ceilinged rectangular room that is fairly uninspiring. It has fairly typical JDW furnishing and decor and at the rear some doors lead to what looked through the pouring rain like a patio.
The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had the JDW Trio Of Doom with Abbot and Doom Bore doubled up, Slater's Golden & Porter, Vale Gravitas, Beer Studio Sharp Motueka and Sadler's Peaky Blinder Gold. I went for the Sadler's beer (£2.19) which was in great nick.
I thought the reasonable beer selection here made up for the uninspiring surrounds and the nicotine Guard Of Honour on the way in.

This is a modern, terraced Spoons outlet, flanked by two older buildings. It has a patio. The frontage is a little dull, being all glass and blue. It is named after the old Pear Tree pub, that occupied the site of the Goose. The smokers hanging out the front are a put-off, indeed, many of them seem to go into the pub for a drinks break between fags. Anyhow, the interior is not very inspiring - a long room, with the serving bar off to the right. The usual red, green and wood panel, with patterned carpet is there for decor. There are some book (you may need to blow the dust off) and the TVs were showing the horse racing and footy scores. There is a hearth fire feature and a few bits of arty art are on the walls (should be on the fire in my opinion). The service was fine and the usual Spoons mix of clientele were in. Beerwise, it had the usual taps, along with Abbot and Ruddles, as well as four or five handpulls. I wasn't expecting much, but by luck or not as the case may be, i had a really tasty Byatts Xmas Ale (even in mid-January!). I would return on the basis of the beer i tried - even if it is perhaps one of the less exciting Spoons.

REVISIT 29/06/2013 - seems to be improving

Spoons by numbers, and what is that exterior all about. Add to that all the smokers hanging outside and blocking the front door, this is the sort of Wetherspoons that give them a bad name. Really can't see why they wanted this pub either.

Beer is ok, a saving factor

This Wetherspoon outlet keeps improving with the beer quality. Had 2 well kept beers this week when we called. Weatheroak Victoria Works and Sadlers Elementus.
