A respectable Spoons this one with a middle aged to older crowd packing the place out on our Friday lunchtime visit. The interior was average with some panelled clad walls around the front lounge and a two tier steel staircase, plus conservatory towards the rear. The bar area was positioned along the left hand wall and hosted 2 x 5 pumps. The Oakham Citra was doubled up and was told this was very popular. Other ales on handpump were Oakham Inferno, which was decent, along with Lancaster Brewery Black, Otter Bright, Exmoor Stag and Burton Bridge.

Town centre Wetherspoon's that looks quite large from the outside, but is surprisingly compact inside. On a nice summer's day, many had dispersed outside onto a terrace overlooking a busy road junction. I cam imagine it gets quite packed inside when the weather isn't as nice. A limited amount of seating can also be found in a balcony area, overlooking the main bar.

Service was efficient, albeit on the brusque side. The usual Wetherspoon's ales were on - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar, alongside 6 guest ales - Butcombe Original, Oakham Citra & Bishop's Farewell, Fire Island Buffalo & Backyard Canicule & Tennis Elbow. The real cider was Weston's Old Rosie.

Unlike most other places in Sutton Coldfield, this branch of 'spoon's was busy and lively. All 3 of the Wetherspoon's I visited last week in the Midlands were charging just £2.10 per pint. With a CAMRA voucher, that can be reduced to just £1.60 a pint. You'd struggle to buy a pint in many parts of the country for the price you can buy 3 pints here. Whatever your thoughts on Wetherspoon's and the effect they have on the pub trade in general, you can see exactly why their pubs are so popular and why their business model works. As they go, this is a better than average branch of the chain.

Nice looking Spoon's with a decent choice of ales - helped by the current festival. I went for Big Shed Kol Schisel - a Pale ale from Australia which was excellent. Also had Oakham Dragon, Citra, Beowulf Folded Cross and Dragon smoke. Worth a visit.

Called in to start our wander round some pubs in the area, and found a decent selection of guest beers from Beowulf (Mercian Shine and Raven Black) and Oakham (Citra, JHB, and Hangar 17) along with the usual range of beers. We enjoyed our Mercian Shine and Hangar 17.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Bottle of Sack (JD Wetherspoon)

The 'traditional' Brewers Tudor exterior belies a thoroughly remodelled interior that bears no relation to the façade. The original building has also been extended at the back in a rather curious way, with the fully glazed part leading to an elevated patio. Also has a second narrow terrace along the main frontage. Standard furnishings and decoration that could be anywhere. Eight of ten handpumps in operation, with several seasonal ales including Beowolf Christmas Kiss (£2.49).

The name of this pub comes from some tedious play by Shakespeare about an old King.
As I approached it I thought it looked like an original pub but can find no evidence to support that. If it was an original pub they've made it look like any other old Spoons. It has a low ceiling so they could cram in an upstairs area and their is a patio to the side. It was chaotic with uncleared tables everywhere and the staff struggling to cope.
The bar has two sets of hand pumps which had a poor selection. Two were unused, the GK beers doubled up then there was just Doom Bore, Deuchar's IPA, Arkell's Kingsdown and Oakleaf Pompey Royal. I went for the Kingsdown (£2.65) which was unremarkable. I found this one to be quite a poor Spoons.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Bottle of Sack (JD Wetherspoon)

A large detached Wetherspoons chain pub and eatery in undressed brick, with some black beam and white render on the gables, conservatory and a patio area.

The interior is on two floors; a larger ground floor and a balcony level, both set-up for dining like spoons generally are. The ground floor is open plan, but partitioned loosely with wood panel and supporting columns. The decor is dark red, wood panel, with white ceiling and a glass conservatory area. There are a few pictures, Shakespeare (hence, bottle of sack) and local history boards on show and there are the usual silent TVs. Upstairs is in white and grey and decorated with strange abstract art. There is also a TV, which wasn't on. There was no music and the service here was fine. The clientele was mixed, but it was quite quiet for a Spoons apart from a group that insisted on blocking the serving bar.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Hobgoblin, Spekky Hen, Acorn IPA, Abbots, Rite Flanker and a poor Ruddles

Another poor beer in a Spoons, it should make the GBG soon then i expect

On major roundabout that connects B'ham, Tamworth, Sutton Train Station and Sutton itself. Bit of Tardis, looks big but quite small inside. Two floored and massive conservatory at the side of the pub (you can see in the pitcure) Gets busy approaching rush hour in the evening when workers, students and shoppers finishing their day comes in here. Best go in the morning or early afternoon. Only thing disappoints me is waiting time and it is rather slow. Few times I waited for more than 10 mins, usually one staff for more than 15 customers!
