A slightly different Spoons, as mentioned below in an old garage with motor sport connections which provides the general theme. I am not quite sure how the prominent shelves of books come in, but I quite liked the overall feel of the place, with completely different styles in different areas. Service seemed a little patchy but the beers were fine. Guest ales were Flack's Black Jack, By The Horns Stiff Upper Lip and Oakham JHB.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Jack Fairman (Lloyds no 1)

Large 'spoons, initially looking like an Art Deco former cinema, but actually a converted 1930s garage once owned by the local Fairman family (of whom Jack was a famous racing driver). Some attempt has been made to break up the space, but it does remain a bit of a gloomy barn. However, if the weather permits, there is also a reasonable amount of seating out on the front pavement. Eight of ten handpumps in operation, with a couple of local(ish) Westerham beers on offer, but I went for the Goldmark American Hop Idol (£2.55).

This has already been well described below but I would add that the right hand side seems to have a dropped ceiling making it more attractive while the left hand side and the bar retain the shed like nature of the building including exposed ventilation ducts giving it all a rather bizarre appearance. On my Thursday afternoon visit the clientele was mixed but it mainly consisted of older people in for meals.
The ten hand pumps on my visit didn't have a great selection as Hog's Back IPA was available soon, Ruddles, Doom Bore and the Locale Pilgrim's Progress were doubled up. This left Abbot, Milk Street Funky Monkey or Firebird No. 79 Pale Ale. I went for the Firebird brew which was in very good condition but not a particularly memorable brew.
It's a Lloyds so may transform itself into Nightmare On Elm Street after 21:00 on Friday and Saturday but I thought it was OK.

The Jack Fairman is a large open plan town centre Lloyd’s No 1 that was quiet at 21:00 on a recent Saturday evening. The ales on offer were Greene King’s Abbot Ale, Brain’s SA, Black Dragon IPA, Sharp’s Doom Bar and Ruddles. The usual draught suspects are all present alongside cheap pub grub. There is at least one plasma screen that was off and I spotted some gaming machines. There was also some background music playing.

The toilets are located upstairs, but I would imagine a pub of this size has disabled facilities.

John Chisholm left this review about The Jack Fairman (Lloyds no 1)

An earlier reviewer suggested that this was once a department store. Industrial yes, as it was built in 1933 as a car showroom which was run by Geoff Fairman latterly selling Jowett & Borgward cars until Geoff suddenly died leading to closure of the business. After a period of closure it was used as a tyre depot before the building was acquired by Weatherspoons and converted into the "Jack Fairman". The name was suggested by the Horley Local History Society in memory of Geoff's brother Jack Fairman, who was a racing driver in the 1950s and lived locally.

Just a square box really but there was a fair range of local real ales on which were on good form.

A half-decent 'Spoons, The Jack Fairman is a modern commercial building (ex-department store?)converted into a beer shop. It's a bit of a barn, with a high, industrial looking ceiling, though it does have a set of cosy-looking snugs along one side and large arch windows to the front. The single bar is sort of triangular in shape (teh bar forms the third side), and the pub is sited conveniently to the station - ideal for a quick beer during that mad dash to shop before arriving at Gatwick. The clientele was mainly the more sedate type, although I was told it can get a bit rowdy at weekends.

There were 4 ales on, and I had a pint of fff Moondance. It was a pretty good pint, although it had possibly been sittin gin the pump a bit too long so wasn't in the best condition. I would happily come in again for a pint next time I'm passing.

Had a half of Hobgoblin here today (decent enough and at @£1.15 can't complain). Pub was exactly what I expected: good selection of ales in bland surroundings; a shelf in the middle populated with oldish books standing out as an exceptionally futile attempt to give it some character. I think I had the measure of this pub quite right before I walked in, and would be happy to return in the event that again I find myself a few feet away waiting for a takeaway.
