Fairly typical 'Spoon's situated in the bottom of a dire office block but handy for the station opposite, the interior is pleasant enough if a little tired. Not much choice of ales apart from the main brands though.

Situated at the bottom of a relatively modern and uninspiring office block, it's a typical 'spoons inside, with its fair share of one-armed bandits, tall tables/tall stools around the entrance, and with loads of normal tables and chairs clustered at the back. There's a raised area at the back on the left, signed as a family area, and furnished with more normal tables and chairs. These were the only tables with condiments on them and thus is where I sat for my incredibly good value spoony breakfast for £2.99. And it was by my table that I saw the old photos of Flora Sandes on the wall, and the explanation that she lived in Thornton Heath until serving with the Red Cross during WWI, and subsequently espousing the Serbian cause and bearing arms in their army.

This is a standard 'spoons - or at least it was when I was in at around 11.30 AM on Wednesday morning. The beer and food were cheap and good; Wetherspoon's invariably offer these two pluses as a trade off for pub atmosphere.

Really quite a small 'spoons situated below an awful 60's office block, with a square interior, bar to the left and a raised section further back.Despite a CPFC match being on,the pub was not rammed although just two serving staff was an obvious mistake. There are two sets of four handpumps, but a cask festival IPA had run out, others were unclipped leaving a choice of Ruddles Best,Abbott,Youngs Special and Adnams Yuletide,an unexciting malty brew but served in OK condition. The pub is away fan friendly and on match days has a shortened and cheaper pub grub menu, with my food arriving swiftly and in wholesome form.
It's certainly one of the less impressive spoons, but as life is invariably all about relativity and given the other real ale options in Thornton Heath, this is probably as good as it gets in this neck of the woods.

Flora Sandes was the only woman who was conscripted in the Great War, apparently she has some links with the area, but they must be fairly tenuous as my meagre research revealed that she spent a large part of her life abroad and her final days in Suffolk.

This is a completely uninspiring square room at the bottom of a grim looking office block just across the road from Thornton Heath Station and as Spoons go it's rather small.
It's not far from Crystal Palace Footbore Ground, so is probably best avoided if there is a match.

There are only eight handpumps which had the two GK beers, Leeds Yorkshire Gold doubled up, Harviestoun Schiehallion, a cider, Loddon's Ferryman's Gold "Available Soon" and Spitfire. I went for the Schiehallion which was in good nick, just about the only redeeming part of my visit.

It's one of the least attractive Spoons I've been to of late, if it had an outstanding selection of ales then it may have alleviated the situation. I can't see a return visit happening any time soon.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Flora Sandes (JD Wetherspoon)

Ugly looking building, and a whole platoon of smokers lurking outside the front door. However, once inside, it turned out to be a perfectly serviceable (if unexceptional) 'spoons. Bar staff were efficient, the tables were clear and the real ale festival beers were a bargain £1.69. The Port Grumpy's Pale Ale was fine. Really not too bad.

This is a small pub for a Wetherspoon's and as there was a beer festival going on there was not much in the way of guest ales.Opposite Thornton Heath railway Station

I'm no Wetherspoons fan, but this palce seemed to be better than most. Initial impressions weren't great, with the pub stuck in the ground floor of some concrete monstrosity of a building and the bar was filled of the standard array of drunks wasting away their days.
However, the staff were incredibly friendly, the Abbot was as good as any I've tried before and the food, which I was told would take 10-15 minutes, was with me in less than 5.
I don't doubt that it would be a different story on a match day (Plastic glasses. Eugh!!), but today I had an enjoyable weatherspoons experience for a change.

When i went in this pub it was called Wetherspoons.
This was the first pub i saw in Thornton Heath after getting off the train, once inside it was a typical Spoons with one large room that was carpeted and had lots of tables and chairs,i was surprised how busy the place was on my morning visit.
There were a few real ales on the bar and i had a drink of Shepherd Neame Spitfire which went down well after a long journey down here.
This pub is ok for a quick morning drink.
