The pub name refers to a garment once manufactured in the town that is typically worn by artists, scarecrows, morris dancers and village idiots.
It's only a medium sized Spoons consisting of a square room split into different areas with the bar at the rear and fairly typical furnishings. It seemed a fairly bright and airy building.
I got here just before midday on a Thursday and it was fairly busy but rather chaotic with plenty of uncleared tables.
The bar has ten hand pumps which had one unused, two ciders, the JDW Trio Of Doom, Daleside Old Legover, Woodforde's Nelson's Revenge, Adnam's Broadside and Shepherd Neame Bishop's Finger. I went for the Nelson's Revenge (£2.35) which was hazy but reasonably OK.
Overall I thought this was a fairly average JDW.

I have always found the staff here very courteous and polite. The food is of a high standard and very good value for money. Families are welcomed and as with most pubs children are restricted to a seperate area. Kids get an activity pack and kids meals again are great value with healthy options available. Widescreen TV with News. Fruit machines and a quiz machine available too.

Typical stereotypical Wetherspoons. Staff shortages at busy times. Not very child friendly, kids are thrown in a dark back room, although this may well appeal to some.
Typical unwashed to the left and unworkable to the right.
Cheap and cheerful though. Good base to start if on a crawl.
