Closed as a Wetherspoon's, but signs on the window state that new owners are looking for staff with re-opening due in December.

A rather dark and slightly tired Spoons in need of an upgrade but apparently it is on the disposal list. Although fair-sized, it is a little claustrophobic with low ceilings. At least it had a few good ales on, including Lincoln Green Marion and Archer, and Titanic Plum Porter, alongside the usuals. It is better than most of its neighbours, which is not saying much.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Widow Frost (JD Wetherspoon)

This Spoons was named after the 18th Century landlady of the Masons Arms pub, which once stood here. The interior is one large room with coffered ceilings, walls were painted in maroon and the bar ran along the full length of the rear wall. Two banks of five handpumps, serving up the usual suspects, so it was good to see a beer from Mr Grundy's Brewery Big Willie, which was a pleasant golden ale.

Nice lloking brick building but on a main road.

Inside..oh dear..dark totally uninspiring space filled with standard JDW tables & chairs. Standard JDW staffing as as well, to the point the manager appeared, dismissed a customer asking for a drink, distracted the staff working and lopped off to the end of the bar to work hard on doing nothing.

Beer choice standard, quality..err..standard.

Really poor Wetherspoons effort.

The Widow Frost will no doubt soon be the sole remaining JDW in Mansfield. The building looks fairly modern but you have to assume it's a shop conversion. Inside it's a roughly square room with a low ceiling and fairly typical furnishings crammed in. There was a projector screen which nobody was watching showing Sky Sports with the sound off.
The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had the JDW Trio Of Doom and two available soon on one and Hobgoblin, Oakham JHB, Shepherd Neame Bishops Finger, Pheasantry Red Rye and one that must have been so boring I forgot to write it down. I went for the Red Rye (£1.99) which was in very good nick.
All in all I found this one a bit dull and preferred the doomed Lloyds round the corner but only marginally.
