The Sir John Arderne is a Wetherspoons with a bar counter along the rear wall that supports the usual keg alongside two banks of five hand pumps. These were drawing Welbeck’s Mistress of the Robe, Nottingham Brewery’s Bullion, Beermats Brewing’s Sum’mat Twisted and Newby Wyke Brewery’s Bear Island alongside the usual three Spoon’s suspects. A sprawling pub that was one of the busier during a recent midweek evening visit, worth a look to see what’s on.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Sir John Arderne (JD Wetherspoon)

Very close to the famed Market Place, but not immediately obvious because it is housed in an old building mostly screened by another. Partly opened-out when given the 'spoons treatment, but there is a variety of seating / dining spaces (both large and small). Coming out of lockdown, there were only four real ales available from the two banks of five handpumps, but at least this included a pair from Pheasantry - Pale and Lincoln Tank (£2.15) - as alternatives to Ruddles and Abbot.

The Sir John Arderne is a Wethersspoons that is situated on the corner of the market place,so very handy for shoppers.
Once inside there is an irregular shaped room which is divided into different areas be pillars, the bar is on the right side, the seating is mainly normal tables and chairs plus a few tall ones.
The guest beer choice was pretty poor on my Thursday morning visit,i had a drink of Thwaites Lancaster Bomber which went down well, the other beers noted were Adnams Broadside,Doom Bar,GK Abbot x 2 and Ruddles best x2.
The pub was very busy with most having the breakfasts.
I quite liked this Spoons and will no doubt visit again when in Newark.

This is a medium sized Spoons that opened last century in Summer 1999. Inside it's fairly standard with the bar at the back and a room for eating on the left. It was busy on my Saturday afternoon visit but not impossibly so.
There are two banks of five hand pumps. The beer selection wasn't that great with the two GK beers doubled up, one pump unused, Doom Bore, Jennings Snecklifter, Pheasantry Pale Ale, Oldershaw Alchemy and Wadworth Dungarvan Irish Red. I went for the Alchemy (£2.15) which was in good nick. I also had a tuna baguette with salad and a pint of Alchemy that came to just £4.39.
I would say this is an average or slightly above average Spoons.

The busiest pub in Newark on our visit. So busy around lunch time on Fri that you couldn't get a seat. The market was on, so maybe this brought the punters in. Ale on our visit was Moorhouses Amber Rambler.

Not originally on our agenda for a beer crawl round Newark, we stumbled into the Arderne at about 6pm to play an off map joker. The beer was acceptible, the decor was the usual spoons offering. We drank, used the facilities and left just as the bouncers were putting up the red rope outside? Probably won't go back, there are far better pubs in Newark.

This functional, quite small and and rather odd shaped Wetherspoons is tucked away just off one corner of main market square and honours a 14th Century surgeon whose specialist subject would appear to have been treating Knight’s hemorrhoids.

The interior is quite plain with a conservatory style frontage and large brick arch fireplace being the central feature. Some of the seating is awkwardly positioned and the place does feel a bit cramped in places.

The usual ‘Spoons beer / food offerings included 3 guests amongst just the 5 ales although the staff needed a prompt regarding topping up the short measure. Food service was excellent with our food arriving very quickly despite the place being extremely busy on our Saturday lunchtime visit.

As long as you expect nothing beyond the normal ‘Spoons take on life, you will feel moderately at home here although I have certainly been in better.
