Decent Spoons with the bar in front as you come in. It also extends down the right hand side. Usual selection of ales and food. This is the best pub I found on Thursday night.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Moon Under Water (JD Wetherspoon)

Looks like an old pub, but given the usual 'spoons treatment inside so it's difficult to tell. The bar area - somewhat dominated by a preponderance of slot machines - isn't very appealing, although the side extension (of some age) has full-height windows and a small patio beyond. With two banks of four handpumps, the real ale choice was Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot plus two from Eight Sail - Blonde (£2.15) and Damson Porter - Oakham JHB, Sneck Lifter and a cider.

Just when you think you must have been to every single Moon Under Water and Moon or whatever another one crops up. This one looked like it might have been an original pub but apparently it was a government building. Inside it consists of an L shaped room with a conservatory and patio overlooking the river tacked on to one side. It's not that large for a JDW and it was pretty packed on my Saturday afternoon visit.
I could only see eight hand pumps on the bar which had the JDW Trio Of Doom, one unused, a cider, Old Peculier, Ramsgate Gadd's no 5 and Wharfe Angel Delight. I went for the Old Peculier which was in good nick. I thought this one was OK and obviously Boston drinkers think the same. Maybe like me they've got the hump with Bateman's after they watered down the XXXB some years ago.

A detached corner Spoon's pub with conservatory and patio area. Rhe building itself is of brick, with a front facing small gable and white windows. The entrance is a little more elaborate, between two large windows.

The interior is an open plan room with several areas broken by a central staircase feature and a large red painted chimney breast and fireplace. It is of course laid out for food. The walls and ceiling are in the usual kind of mix of clours; red, grey, coffee, white, white wood panel and conventional wood panel, with a patterned carpet. The walls have a few mirrors and informational panels on the Pilgrim Fathers. There are several TVs, but these were thankfully not on at my visit and there was no music. There were just a few in, so i could get served quite quickly and the service was fine. I didn't eat so can't comment on that.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Ruddles and Abbot, as well as Arundel New Horizons, Conway's Lemon Ale and Franklin's Brighton Rocks - it was flat-ish.

Standard enough Spoons really. Beer is up and down. Have been in worse.

A good internal description from Roger needs little adding. The exterior terrace overlooks the tidal River Witham and is a feature in fine weather.Boston is dominated by Bateman's tied houses,so I was very disappointed to fine three Bateman beers (XB,XXXB and Dark Mild) on here as well. With GK IPA,Ruddles Bitter as regulars the only other option was Adnams Broadside which hardly sets the pulse racing. So on my trip the ale selection offered nothing special and for that reason I must conclude that this is no more than a bog standard 'spoons.

Roger Button left this review about The Moon Under Water (JD Wetherspoon)

A large pub with a fairly grand interior and a reasonable amount of character compared to the typical plastic Wetherspoons offering. The interior is divided into 3 specific areas emanating from the main bar. To the left of the bar is a non smoking conservatory type area for want of a better description. Comfortable enough with plenty of tables but one can't help feel that it should make more of its location overlooking the river. The central area in front of the bar is dominated by a curving staircase that should lead to somewhere a bit grander than the toilets. At the foot are a couple of fruit machines and a quiz machine minus, of course, the volume. The paneled room opposite has a fireplace with a large mirror now partly obscured by a Plasma screen hanging down from the ceiling with a few nice old pictures of the town. To the other side of the bar is another large room, a bit plainer, usually a bit quieter and with less features. Another plasma screen breaks up the fairly empty wall and the room is desperately in need of a good elaborate chandelier and a few old portraits to give it a bit of character. There is also a small outside terrace when the weather permits. As per the usual Wetherspoons outlets, there is a decent range of inexpensive beers and food. One of the better 'Spoons pubs.
