As well described below this is a grand old building but was let down by a dull beer choice with the only possible item of interest being Westerham East India Pale. As I was eating which included a drink I had the Devils Backbone IPA.
The grand building is wasted on me if the beer choice is rubbish as it was here.

This former Baptist Chapel was built in 1873 and funded by a loan from Samuel Peto who was a railway contractor and entrepreneur of the Victorian era.A great deal of the original features remain including balconies, double pulpit and chandeliers.Although smallish by Wetherspoons standards an excellent job has been done on the refurbishment although the 2 one armed bandits at the bottom of the iron stairway do not do it any favours.
There was the standard casks on show plus a few guest beers on my Thursday night visit and had no problem getting served but at weekends I can imagine a struggle for seats as there are not that many and most are the booth type seating.
Worth a visit if you are in Folkestone even if it is just to view the interior and the painted sky ceiling.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Samuel Peto (JD Wetherspoon)

Very imposing former Baptist chapel, well converted by Wetherspoon into a two-storey pub / restaurant with a decent gallery on three sides. Mix of seating, with a good number of booths on both levels. Lots to look at, wherever you are sat. Only downside is the rather pedestrian choice of real ales from two banks of six handpumps, with only the Old Dairy Gold Top (excellent value at just £2.45) standing out.

This converted gospel hall is impressive inside with its ornate architectural features, grand church organ and wonderful painted ceilings. What a pity JDW doesn't live up to the setting. The staff were young and highly inefficient, even by JDW standards. There were 5 ales on, I had a pint of Whitstable Brewery's Black Lager which was much, much too cold. There is far too much competition nearby for JDW to let this business stay so suboptimally managed.

The building that the Samuel Peto is housed in is quite grand from the outside with ten steps that lead up to the entrance. I walked past it twice before realising that it was the pub I was looking for. I suppose that the façade looks more like the entrance to an old government building rather than a McSpoons. The interior is also very grand although not as big as I was expecting as I pushed through the massive front doors. Directly in front of the entrance is an iron staircase that leads up to a gallery and down to the toilets. The gallery and horseshoe bar area both have booths that line the exterior walls.
I counted ten hand pumps on the bar that were drawing a mix of usual Spoon’s suspects as well as some guest beers. There is also a standard draught range and cheap food is available.

This place is a bit different and worth a look if in the area.

Converted from a Baptist chapel this Wetherspoon's is surprisingly good. There is a large gallery and many of the chapel's features remain. There was a very good selection of good value real ales on and the ones I tried were in very good form. This pub is well worth a visit when in Folkestone.

There's two ways of looking at this pub. One can take the traditional method of dismissing it entirely out of hand simply because it's a Wetherspoons, and everyone knows that Wetherspoons are totally crap.

Or one might actually go into the place and try the food and beer and find that one might be mistaken in one's preconceptions.
I won't say it's the best pub in Folkestone, because it isn't. But it is far from being the worst.

I almost didn't find this pub but when I did I was glad I persevered as it's a really impressive church conversion. On entering you are faced with a double iron staircase which leads up to a galleried area with drinking booths looking down on the main bar. In each corner of the main bar are raised areas with armchairs and bookcases for a comfortable homely feel. There is a small horseshoe bar, above which the old church organ can be seen. Original statues and features of the church have been retained and the whole thing is rounded off by "Hymns" and "Hyrs" hymn boards outside the toilets.
