Old Boots left this review about The County Beerhouse

Refurbished from a slightly tired old pub, although lacking the character of the old pub it’s a comfortable and in many ways sympathetic treatment. Fairly standard line up of six pumps and two lots of five kegs on T-Bars, all Yorkshire beers on cask on my visit. Much banquette seating has been reinstalled with modern glass and wood dividers added. Victorian tables on cast iron bases although the arte deco lights detract from the 19th century vibe it’s a decent place. There’s a small sitting room tucked away out of sight beyond the toilets.

Called in last night for a swift half on the way to the football, so will maybe expand this review when I go back for a more leisurely visit. The interior is looking very smart, though I'm not sure how much of a change this will have been as previous reviews don't suggest that the older version of the pub was at all tired. A major change is on the bar, with six hand pumps and the beers all from Yorkshire breweries. We went for Theakstons Old Peculier, and this was in excellent form; we could have had beers from Timothy Taylor, Salt, Wishbone, Brass Castle or Vocation. As Andy says, definitely one to watch.

Has just been acquired by the Beerhouses pub group (Stalybridge Station Buffet Bar, West Riding Licensed Refreshment Rooms, Dewsbury 'et al'). Will close temporarily, for a sympathetic refurb, before a relaunch. Definitely one to watch.

ROB Camra left this review about The County

Interesting old pub with some unusual stanchion lighting at the ends of the bar and an impressive bar back. Very noisy karaoke music being played, but luckily no-one singing during our Sunday evening visit. A couple of very smelly foreign guys playing on the pool table at the rear, so we sat in the middle bit. The friendly landlord had a bit of a chat whilst we were being served. 3 handpumps, but only Bombardier actually on. One of the better pints of Bombardier that I've had. It's a reasonable pub, but there's lots of competition around here, so probably won't revisit.

A fairly decent pub. It looks like its had a refurb within the last couple of years as it's quite modern inside compared to the outside. A slender room with the bar along the wall and a pool table at the end of the bar. 3 handpulls on the bar but only Bombardier on on my visit. A pleasant place but nearby Grove and Rat & Ratchet are a better bet for beer. That said it's still nice.

A locals pub with an unspoilt-ish interior and John Smith etched windows, many original features survive, the curved counter and bar back are fairly notable. Open plan now but there is a snug area at the front and a formal dining room at the back, the bar has the usual screens and machines and there's a pool table to the rear. Traditional pub furnishings of banquette seats, britannia tables etc. Three handpumps serving Bombardier, Hobgoblin and Copper Dragon Golden Pippin in not bad condition.
