Potters Bar is not well served with decent real ale pubs ,so this is probably your best bet.A non descript building ,the interior is open plan and rectangular ,although there is a raised side section to the right .The large plate glass windows at the front give it a cafe feel, while the bar runs along the rear wall. The loos are downstairs.
There are two banks of 6 handpumps but Doom Bar,GK Abbott and Ruddles Bitter were all doubled up on my trip. There were two International festival ales,a real cider and further guests of Castle Rock Winter Melody,Kansas Avenue Wise Donkey and Kelham Island Pale Rider (NBSS 4).A decent range,no "available soon " malarky and so deserving of its 2020 GBG listing.
Functional ,not very exciting but a relative oasis from an ale drinkers point of view.

Glad to say this spoons has got much better since my last review there seems to be much a better selection of guest ales on offer now days and they are much better kept must have got a new cellar man may be they poached the one from the New Crown. This spoons has always been good for food and remains so. The only bad thing in here is sometimes you get a lot or crowds coming in together for food and there is never enough staff serving at busy times to cope with them as they all seem to pay and order separately so you can end up waiting ages just to get served a decent Ale but apart from that its a reasonably good pub for a spoons even if a little out the way.

I came to this pub today with some trepidation given the unfavourable reviews.

I arrived at 10:30am and got served immediately with a FULL pint of Cottage Broad Gauge which wasn’t in great condition but wasn’t rank.

This beer is not on the current Spoons guest ale list so is either bought in separately or is left over from the Spoons Festival which ended over two weeks ago and I suspect the latter to be the case.

The office block of which it is a part is completely hideous, as can be seen from the picture. This is the first time I have ever stopped in Potter Bar and to be honest it’s a totally uninspiring and dull place so this Spoons is all they deserve.

The best part of this visit was the 313 bus ride which goes through a few miles of wonderful rolling countryside with distant views of Docklands, the City and that ludicrous spire at London Bridge.

It wasn’t a complete disaster so I’ll give it 5.

I would have too agree with the last poster This place has certainly gone down hill since last year where I give it 8/10 now I would struggle to give it 2/10. Ive been here at least Three times in recent weeks and every time Ive had too return at least one Pint of Ale and consistently ask for other pints to be toped up after getting short measures I would not mind if it was only trainee staff but this was by the Duty Managers & Team Leaders according too there name badges. I also found the staff are very rude and arrogant with no manors or Please or Thank You at all as they seem too busy talking to the drunk regulars propping up the bar rather than want inconvenience of serving customers. The last time I was in only Three guest Ales were available and Two out of the Three Pints I tried were undrinkable and cloudy. It now Seems to be full of customers just coming in to eat the cheap food or buy soft drinks whilst other regulars get well Oiled on Lager. There was not much Ale being sold when I was in again a few times over the last week probably why it not in the best condition. Lets hope it picks up again soon but I doubt it until theres a change of management as its been like this for well over a year now.

Gone downhill recently, ale range poor, either there is a available soon sign up or the ones that seem available are not, went in a short while ago to be told that the available soon would only be available when others had been drunk (and since noone seemed to like those it was going to be a long wait)

I have Been In here a Few times recently and was in yesterday afternoon. It seems too have improved A lot since last year. Theres been a few more staff on duty when Ive been in and getting served is much better. Only One problem I have noticed is if theres something on TV like sport as some fool has put two large LED TV panels right behind the bar which means everyone hangs around the bar if theres Anything worth watching on TVs. The staff need too try move them on after serving them.
The Ales I tried when I went In were Highgate Black Pig, Rooster Good Cheer Beer, Leads Midnight Bell, All were in good condition. There was even A pile of beer Mats on the Bar & some on the Tables. I also noticed the place was a lot cleaner now as the Tables were cleared of Used Plates & Glasses and cleaned as soon as customers vacated them. I would say all in all its a good Wetherspoons And I would go in again whenever I'm passing . Just make sure you avoid Friday Saturday nights as it Gets rammed with the Younger & loud crowed like most others.

Don't stand more than two feet from the till when you want to be served as the barmaids are on some sort of invisible tether that doesn't allow them to work the whole bar. The majority of patrons were students taking advantage of the cheap booze and for this reason I think that this is a below par Wetherspoons and I don't plan on returning.
